Comparison of cystectomy and lobectomy of lung hydatid cyst in pediatrics: a retrospective study
CONCLUSION: The complications and outcome of the cystectomy are comparable to the lobectomy technique. However, the cystectomy method has the advantage of preserving the lung tissue, therefore it's a favourable technique in endemic areas for hydatid cysts where reoperation may be indicated.PMID:38576968 | PMC:PMC10990369 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001823 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Prolonged suppressive antibiotic therapy for inferior vena cava filter infection following emphysematous pyelonephritis and cystitis: a case report
CONCLUSION: Infections of implanted devices, such as IVC filters, secondary to severe infections can cause persistent bacteremia. PSAT may be an alternative option to treat IVC filter infection, when the IVC filter is considered difficult to remove.PMID:38576969 | PMC:PMC10990323 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001886 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Kaposi sarcoma-induced immune reconstitution syndrome: a case report
CONCLUSION: HIV patients with KS undergoing ART initiation or modification should be closely monitored, particularly during the early stages and in those with extensive disease. Treating opportunistic infections before ART initiation may reduce the risk of KS-IRIS. The increasing prevalence of KS in ART-treated patients with HIV warrants further attention and highlights the need for better management strategies in this population.PMID:38576974 | PMC:PMC10990315 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001842 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

A case report and anesthetic implications of situs inversus totalis in video-assisted thoracoscopic pulmonary resection
CONCLUSION: Patients with rare clinical conditions and backgrounds may require surgical and anesthetic intervention. The authors describe important anesthetic considerations of preoperative evaluation, airway management, cardiac monitoring, and vascular access that should be noted and taken into account for patients with SIT. Proper preparation, planning, and communication allow for patients with SIT to safely undergo surgical procedures.PMID:38576975 | PMC:PMC10990401 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001895 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

CONCLUSION: This case report highlights recurrent FEPV in a 2-year-old girl. Despite previous excisions, polyps recurred, emphasizing the need for complete excision. Documenting cases will enhance our understanding. Further research is needed to elucidate the pathogenesis of paediatric FEPV. Early detection, treatment, and follow-up are essential for optimal management.PMID:38576976 | PMC:PMC10990311 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001836 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Prevalence of fetomaternal Rhesus incompatibility at the tertiary care hospital: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Fetomaternal Rhesus incompatibility remains a major problem of maternal health because it is likely to lead to the formation of antibodies in women, which by crossing the placental barrier, they destroy red blood cells and thus cause serious complications.PMID:38576979 | PMC:PMC10990368 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001846 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Dandy Walker variant with agenesis of corpus callosum diagnosed late prenatally by foetal ultrasound: a case report
CONCLUSION: The risks of development of posterior fossa anomalies can exist even after second trimester scan, Clinicians should be aware of this possibility and assess the posterior fossa at repeat scans done later in intrauterine life. Early diagnosis can provide an option to couples of the termination of pregnancy which is complicated when detected later in the intrauterine life.PMID:38576980 | PMC:PMC10990358 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001844 (Source: Annals of Medicine)
