Optimizing the Hospital Blood Bank Stock in Korea: a Comparative Analysis of the Uniform 5-Day Stock Index and a Novel Blood Stock Index
CONCLUSIONS: While 5IS was unacceptable for universal application, Lim's IS remained near one shortage day and is considered more efficient than 5IS. Hospitals should implement indicators that consider DU and its variations. This is the first study to introduce Lim's IS as an indicator of optimal blood inventory, and the data are expected to provide guidance for effective blood inventory management nationwide, particularly during blood shortages.PMID:38098300 | DOI:10.3343/alm.2023.0242 (Source: Annals of Laboratory Medicine)

Performance Evaluation of the Roche Cobas 5800 HBV and HCV Tests: Comparison of the 200 and 500 μL Protocols
CONCLUSIONS: The Cobas 5800 200 and 500 μL protocols for the HBV DNA and HCV RNA tests demonstrated excellent performance. These findings establish the 200 μL protocol as a new option for low-volume samples, especially for pediatric and difficult-to-bleed patients.PMID:38098301 | DOI:10.3343/alm.2023.0306 (Source: Annals of Laboratory Medicine)

Neutralization Testing-based Immunogenicity Analysis of Recent Prevalent Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Omicron Sublineages
Ann Lab Med. 2023 Dec 13. doi: 10.3343/alm.2023.0256. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough WHO declared the end of the public health emergency for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), XBB lineages continue to evolve and emerge globally. In particular, XBB.1.5 and XBB.1.16 are raising concerns because of their high immune evasion, leading to apprehensions regarding vaccine efficacy reduction and potential reinfection. We aimed to investigate the COVID-19 outbreak in Korea and predict the likelihood of reinfection by testing neutralizing activity agains...

Evaluation of Coefficients of Variation for Clinical Chemistry Analytes Based on Internal Quality Control Data Across 5,425 Laboratories in China From 2013 to 2022
CONCLUSIONS: The CVs of IQC data for clinical chemistry have seen a continuous overall improvement in China. However, there is ample room for imprecision improvement for several analytes, with stricter performance specifications.PMID:38014482 | DOI:10.3343/alm.2023.0236 (Source: Annals of Laboratory Medicine)
