Cavin1 activates the Wnt/ β-catenin pathway to influence the proliferation and migration of hepatocellular carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: Cavin1 suppresses HCC progression by modulating HCC proliferation and migration via inhibiting the Wnt/β-catenin axis activation.PMID:37774837 | DOI:10.1016/j.aohep.2023.101160 (Source: Annals of Hepatology)

Prevalence of occult hepatitis B virus infection and characterisation of hepatitis B surface antigen mutants among adults in western Croatia
CONCLUSIONS: We detected multiple known and novel S gene mutations in 2/12 (16.6%) OBI cases, nevertheless, further studies are required to determine their role in the pathogenesis of OBI. Understanding the frequencies of clinically relevant HBV mutations may contribute to improvement of diagnostic protocols.PMID:37758118 | DOI:10.1016/j.aohep.2023.101156 (Source: Annals of Hepatology)

Overall and subgroup prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and prevalence of advanced fibrosis in the United States: an updated national estimate in National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2018
CONCLUSIONS: This study supports an increased prevalence of NAFLD in specific subpopulations (aged ≥ 65 years, males, Mexican Americans, obese population, and patients with T2D). The observed difference in the prevalence of advanced fibrosis as estimated by NFS and FIB-4 highlights the challenge of choosing optimal cut-off values.PMID:37742743 | DOI:10.1016/j.aohep.2023.101154 (Source: Annals of Hepatology)

Prevalence of post-liver transplant complications and NASH-related cirrhosis in postmenopausal women
CONCLUSIONS: Postmenopausal women were significantly more likely to have NASH as an indication for LT than men. Postmenopausal women had greater weight gain and more noncardiac complications than men. Women did not have increased cardiovascular outcomes, ASCVD risk, or mortality. Diet education and weight control in postmenopausal women with existing risk factors for NASH should be encouraged to modulate health outcomes.PMID:37742744 | DOI:10.1016/j.aohep.2023.101157 (Source: Annals of Hepatology)
