Carboxypeptidase Vitellogenic-Like Promotes the Proliferation and Metastasis of Osteosarcoma through the TGF- β/Smad Signaling Pathway
CONCLUSIONS: High CPVL expression in osteosarcoma not only promoted tumor growth but also induced the EMT process through the TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway. CPVL may be a new antitumor therapeutic target for osteosarcoma.PMID:38182149 (Source: Annals of Clinical and Laboratory Science)

Relationship between Cervicovaginal Microecological Changes and HPV16/18 Infection and Cervical Cancer in Women of Childbearing Age
CONCLUSIONS: Changes in vaginal microecology are strongly linked to HPV16/18 infection. BV infection, Uu infection, HPV viral load, and HPV16/18 infection are risk factors for CIN/CC. Timely treatment of BV and Uu infections, restoration of a normal vaginal microecological environment, and improvement of HPV16/18 outcomes can delay the occurrence and progression of CIN/CC.PMID:38182150 (Source: Annals of Clinical and Laboratory Science)

Uterine Carcinosarcoma Presenting as Metastatic Osteosarcoma in the Lung: A Case Report and Literature Review
We present the case of a 59-year-old female who initially received a diagnosis of endometrial serous carcinoma and presented one year later with a malignant neoplasm in the lung featuring osteosarcomatous differentiation. Notably, the bone scan did not reveal any evidence of a primary bone tumor. However, additional sampling from the endometrium demonstrated a UCS with an osteosarcomatous component.Upon reviewing existing literature, it has been observed that metastases in carcinosarcoma cases generally arise from the carcinomatous component. Conversely, the sarcomatous component typically spreads locally to areas such as ...

An Uncommon Case of Fungal Rhinosinusitis Caused by the Mold < em > Exserohilum rostratum < /em > in a Patient with Relapsed Acute Myeloid Leukemia: Case Report and Review of the Literature
We present here a patient with relapsed acute myeloid leukemia who was neutropenic for a prolonged period. Symptoms worsened during the hospital course, including left-sided sinus swelling, which was also noted on imaging. ENT performed a bedside endoscopy and biopsied an eschar forming in the left nasal cavity. This was ultimately found to be acute invasive rhinosinusitis due to infection with the mold Exserohilum rostratum The patient was started on Posaconazole and Amphotericin B. He eventually also underwent surgical debridement. Infections with this organism are very uncommon, as noted in our literature search. In the...

Coffin-Siris Syndrome: Case Series of Three Patients and a Novel ARID2 Variant
Ann Clin Lab Sci. 2023 Nov;53(6):959-963.ABSTRACTCoffin-Siris syndrome (CSS) is a rare congenital disorder characterized by coarse facial features, intellectual disability or developmental delay, and aplasia or hypoplasia of the tips of the fifth finger and/or toes. Mutations in genes affecting the switch/sucrose non-fermenting ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex are reported to cause CSS. Here, we describe three CSS patients. Two girls aged 3 and 2 years old presented with global developmental delay, poor growth, and a dysmorphic face. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) was performed and they were diagnosed with CSS due ...

Analysis of Coagulation Characteristics of Portal Venous Blood in Patients with Decompensated Cirrhotic Portal Hypertension
CONCLUSIONS: The collection of portal venous blood via TIPS is a safe and feasible method for studying coagulation characteristics in DCPH patients. The parallel reduction of both pro- and anticoagulant factors in DCPH patients results in a rebalanced but fragile coagulation system, which may lead to portal vein hemorrhage and thrombosis. Furthermore, as the Child-Pugh scores or classes increase, the situation will probably get worse due to FII, FVII, and PC deficiencies.PMID:38182138 (Source: Annals of Clinical and Laboratory Science)

Interobserver Variability and Challenges in Intraoperative Frozen Section Evaluation of Pancreatic Margins in Pancreatectomy Specimens
CONCLUSIONS: We showed excellent interobserver agreement among gastrointestinal pathologists for diagnosis of adenocarcinoma on frozen sections of pancreatic margins with marked chronic pancreatitis. Missed adenocarcinoma at the margin was mainly caused by freezing or cautery artifacts or by overlooking a tiny focus of perineural invasion in a background of marked chronic pancreatitis. The evaluation of deeper levels led to perfect agreement.PMID:38182140 (Source: Annals of Clinical and Laboratory Science)
