Utility of transesophageal echocardiography during orthotopic liver transplantation: A narrative review
Ann Card Anaesth. 2023 Oct-Dec;26(4):367-379. doi: 10.4103/aca.aca_186_22.ABSTRACTOrthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) is the standard of care for patients suffering from end stage liver disease (ESLD). This is a high-risk procedure with the potential for hemorrhage, large shifts in preload and afterload, and release of vasoactive mediators that can have profound effects on hemodynamic equilibrium. In addition, patients with ESLD can have preexisting coronary artery disease, cirrhotic cardiomyopathy, porto-pulomary hypertension and imbalanced coagulation. As cardiovascular involvement is invariable and patient are at an ...

Comparison of noninvasive cardiac output monitoring by electrical cardiometry with transthoracic echocardiography in postoperative paediatric cardiac surgical patients - A prospective observational study
CONCLUSION: ICON ® monitor-derived parameters are not interchangeable with the values derived from TTE. However, the ICON ® monitor demonstrated a good trending ability for both CO and CI.PMID:37861570 | PMC:PMC10691584 | DOI:10.4103/aca.aca_9_23 (Source: Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia)

Effects of a forced-air warming system and warmed intravenous fluids on hemodynamic parameters, shivering, and time to awakening in elderly patients undergoing open cardiac surgery
CONCLUSION: The results revealed that FAWS could mitigate the degree of hypothermia, increase body temperature and decrease the postoperative serum lactate levels. Moreover, BE as one of the most important parameters for ABGs, could remain at a normal level. Besides, the use of FAWS could lead to early awakening, and thus facilitate weaning and extubation of these patients.PMID:37861571 | PMC:PMC10691583 | DOI:10.4103/aca.aca_20_23 (Source: Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia)

Effect of transesophageal echocardiography probe on tracheal perfusion pressure and ventilatory parameters in pediatric patients undergoing cardiac surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass: A prospective observational study
CONCLUSION: TEE probe causes an increase in CP and decreases TPP. Constant monitoring and maintaining CP, TPP in optimum range is recommended.PMID:37861572 | PMC:PMC10691560 | DOI:10.4103/aca.aca_19_23 (Source: Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia)

Role of magnesium alone or in combination with diltiazem and/or amiodarone in prevention of atrial fibrillation following off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting
CONCLUSIONS: It is concluded that the use of amiodarone and/or diltiazem in addition to magnesium did not result in additional benefit of lowering the incidence of AF.PMID:37861573 | PMC:PMC10691575 | DOI:10.4103/aca.aca_35_23 (Source: Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia)

A Lung ultrasound-based comparison of postoperative respiratory outcome after pediatric congenital heart surgery in COVID-19 recovered and COVID-19 unaffected children-a pilot study
CONCLUSION: LUSS was not higher in COVID-recovered children. Children with a history of severe COVID-19 recorded higher LUSS, in-hospital mortality, duration of ICU stay, and duration of ventilation.PMID:37861574 | PMC:PMC10691578 | DOI:10.4103/aca.aca_43_23 (Source: Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia)

Effect of intravenous levosimendan or milrinone on left atrial pressure in patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting-A prospective double-blind, randomized controlled trial
Conclusion: Levosimendan may be used as a primary inotrope in terms of better reduction in left atrial pressure during different stages of OPCAB, translating to a decrease in left ventricular end-diastolic pressure, therefore maintaining optimum coronary perfusion pressure, which is the primary goal of the surgery.PMID:37861575 | PMC:PMC10691577 | DOI:10.4103/aca.aca_51_23 (Source: Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia)

Comparison of success rate of abducted and neutral arm position for right infraclavicular subclavian vein cannulation under real-time ultrasound guidance in patients undergoing elective neurosurgery under general anesthesia
CONCLUSION: For USG-guided infraclavicular subclavian vein cannulation, abducted arm position, and neutral arm position in terms of first attempt success rate, number of attempts and associated complications has comparable results; however, further studies with larger group of patients are required to assess the overall advantage of abducted arm position over neutral arm position.PMID:37861576 | PMC:PMC10691558 | DOI:10.4103/aca.aca_32_23 (Source: Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia)

Ann Card Anaesth. 2023 Oct-Dec;26(4):433-434. doi: 10.4103/aca.aca_91_23.ABSTRACTA patient with Marfan syndrome undergoing Bentall operation was found to have an absent right superior vena cava and persistent left superior vena cava. The dilation of coronary sinus raised the suspicion of persistent left superior vena cava. The diagnosis was confirmed by agitated saline contrast echocardiography and computed tomography of the chest.PMID:37861579 | PMC:PMC10691572 | DOI:10.4103/aca.aca_91_23 (Source: Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia)
