Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAcromegaly is a rare disease with prevalence of approximately 60 cases per million, slight female predominance and peak onset in adults in the fourth decade. Clinical diagnosis is often delayed by several years due to the slowly progressive onset of symptoms. There are multiple clinical criteria that define acromegaly: dysmorphic syndrome of insidious onset, symptoms related to the pituitary tumor (headaches, visual disorders), general signs (sweating, carpal tunnel syndrome, joint pain, etc.), complica...

Mortality-related risk factors of inpatients with diabetes and COVID-19: a multicenter retrospective study in Belgium
CONCLUSION: In-hospital mortality due to the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Belgium was high in patients with diabetes. We found that advanced age and male gender were independent risk factors for in-hospital death. We also showed that metformin use before admission was associated with significantly lower COVID-19-related in-hospital mortality. Finally, we showed that CKD is a COVID-19-related mortality risk factor in patients with diabetes admitted to the ICU.PMID:37574109 | DOI:10.1016/j.ando.2023.08.002 (Source: Annales d'Endocrinologie)

Risk factors for hypothyroidism following hemithyroidectomy
CONCLUSION: Patients with TSH >1.5 mIU/ or remaining thyroid volume adjusted for body surface area <4.0 mL/m² should have intensified clinical and biological follow-up in the first year after surgery.PMID:37517518 | DOI:10.1016/j.ando.2023.06.004 (Source: Annales d'Endocrinologie)
