Implementation of the Targeted Axillary Dissection Procedure in Clinically Node-Positive Breast Cancer: A Retrospective Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Introduction of the TAD procedure has resulted in a reduction of 84% of previously indicated ALNDs. Moreover, 18% of cases did not receive adjuvant axillary radiotherapy. These data show that implementation of de-escalation axillary treatment with the TAD procedure appeared to be successful.PMID:38523225 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15182-3 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Impact of < sup > 18F < /sup > FDG-PET/CT and Laparoscopy in Staging of Locally Advanced Gastric Cancer: A Cost Analysis in the Prospective Multicenter PLASTIC-Study
CONCLUSIONS: For advanced gastric cancer, performing SL resulted in substantial cost savings by reducing unnecessary gastrectomies. In contrast, routine 18FFDG-PET/CT increased costs without substantially reducing unnecessary gastrectomies, and is not recommended due to limited impact with major costs.TRIAL REGISTRATION: NCT03208621. Perioperative Complications and In-Hospital Mortality in Partial and Radical Nephrectomy Patients with Heart-Valve Replacement
CONCLUSIONS: History of heart-valve replacement independently predicted four of twelve adverse outcomes in partial nephrectomy and five of twelve adverse outcomes in radical nephrectomy patients including intraoperative and cardiac complications, blood transfusions, and longer hospital stay. Conversely, no statistically significant differences were observed in in-hospital mortality.PMID:38526833 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15228-6 (Source: Ann Oncol)

A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of the Role of Preoperative MRI in In-breast Tumor Recurrence After Breast-Conserving Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Although some evidence supports the hypothesis that identification of additional tumors in the breast using pMRI results in lower rates of IBTR after BCS, the main meta-analysis in this study did not confirm this hypothesis.PMID:38520578 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-14746-z (Source: Ann Oncol)

Clinicopathological Predictors of Positive Resection Margins in Breast-Conserving Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with pure IBC, the relative risk of a positive margin with IBC + DCIS is approximately ninefold, significantly higher than prior estimates. This margin-level methodology is believed to represent the impact of DCIS more accurately on margin positivity in IBC.PMID:38520579 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15153-8 (Source: Ann Oncol)
