Exploring Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Survivors' Experience with Cancer Treatment-Related Symptoms: A Qualitative Analysis of Semi-Structured Interviews
Conclusion: Results highlight the burden of cancer treatment-related symptoms on day-to-day life among post-treatment AYA cancer survivors. Future work is needed to identify nonpharmacological symptom management interventions, strategies to improve patient-clinician communication about symptoms, and strategies to increase the visibility and accessibility of symptom management clinical trials for AYA cancer survivors.PMID:38634665 | DOI:10.1089/jayao.2024.0053 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Development and Validation of an 18-Gene Urine Test for High-Grade Prostate Cancer
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this study, a new 18-gene PCa test had higher diagnostic accuracy for high-grade PCa relative to existing biomarker tests. Clinically, use of this test would have meaningfully reduced unnecessary biopsies performed while maintaining highly sensitive detection of high-grade cancers. These data support use of this new PCa biomarker test in patients with elevated PSA levels to reduce the potential harms of PCa screening while preserving its long-term benefits.PMID:38635241 | DOI:10.1001/jamaoncol.2024.0455 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Order from Chaos: The Benefits of Standardized Nomenclature in Radiation Oncology
Pract Radiat Oncol. 2024 Apr 16:S1879-8500(24)00080-8. doi: 10.1016/j.prro.2024.04.002. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWhile standardization has been shown to improve patient safety and improve the efficiency of workflows, implementation of standards can take considerable effort and requires the engagement of all clinical stakeholders. Engaging team members includes increasing awareness of the proposed benefit of the standard, a clear implementation plan, monitoring for improvements, and open communication to support successful implementation. The benefits of standardization often focus on large institutions to improve rese...

Immigration Status and Breast Cancer Surgery Quality of Care Metrics: A Population-Level Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: We observed differences in measures of socioeconomic disadvantage and disease characteristics between immigrant and Canadian-born women with breast cancer. Upon adjusting for these factors, no differences emerged in rate of surgery, rate of BCS, and time to surgery. The lack of disparity suggests barriers to accessing basic components of breast cancer care may be mitigated by the universal healthcare system in Canada.PMID:38637444 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15250-8 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Perioperative and Oncological Outcomes of Partial Versus Radical Nephrectomy for Complex Renal Tumors (RENAL Score ≥ 7): Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: For complex renal tumours, PN requires more operative time and has a higher chance of complications in the short term. However, in long-term follow-up, PN has a small decrease in renal function with longer OS and CSS.PMID:38630418 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15223-x (Source: Ann Oncol)
