Oversaturating Liquid Interfaces with Nanoparticle-Surfactants
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Apr 8:e202403790. doi: 10.1002/anie.202403790. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAssemblies of nanoparticles at liquid interfaces hold promise as dynamic "active" systems when there are convenient methods to drive the system out of equilibrium via crowding. To this end, we show that oversaturated assemblies of charged nanoparticles can be realized and held in that state with an external electric field. Upon removal of the field, strong interparticle repulsive forces cause a high in-plane electrostatic pressure that is released in an explosive emulsification. We quantify the packing of the assembly ...

Steering sp-Carbon Content in Graphdiynes for Enhanced Two-Electron Oxygen Reduction to Hydrogen Peroxide
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Apr 8:e202401501. doi: 10.1002/anie.202401501. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCompared to sp2-hybridized graphene, graphdiynes (GDYs) composed of sp and sp2 carbon are highly promising as efficient catalysts for electrocatalytic oxygen reduction into oxygen peroxide because of the high catalytic reactivity of the electron-rich sp-carbon atoms. The desired catalytic capacity of GDY, such as catalytic selectivity and efficiency, can theoretically be achieved by strategically steering the sp-carbon contents or the topological arrangement of the acetylenic linkages and aromatic bonds. Herein, we suc...

Gas-Induced Electrical and Magnetic Modulation of Two-Dimensional Conductive Metal-Organic Framework
This study merges chemiresistive and magnetic tests to reveal that the MOF undergoes simultaneous changes in electrical conductance and magnetization that are uniquely modulated by each gas. The features of response, including direction, magnitude, and kinetics, are modulated by the physicochemical properties of the gaseous molecules. This study advances the design of multifunctional materials capable of undergoing simultaneous changes in electrical and magnetic properties in response to chemical stimuli.PMID:38589297 | DOI:10.1002/anie.202404290 (Source: Angewandte Chemie)

Boryl Radical as a Catalyst in Enabling Intra- and Intermolecular Cascade Radical Cyclization Reactions: Construction of Polycyclic Molecules
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Apr 8:e202405863. doi: 10.1002/anie.202405863. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCascade radical cyclization constitutes an atom- and step-economic route for rapid assembly of polycyclic molecular skeletons. Although an array of redox-active metal catalysts has recently shown robust applications in enabling various catalytic cascade radical processes, the use of free organic radical as the catalyst, which is capable of triggering strategically distinct cascades, has rarely been developed. Here, we disclosed that the benzimidazolium-based N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-boryl radical is capable of cata...

Near-Infrared Emission Beyond 900 nm from Stable Radicals in Nonconjugated Poly(diphenylmethane)
This study addresses these limitations by achieving stable radicals in nonconjugated poly(diphenylmethane) (PDPM). Notably, PDPM exhibits a well-balanced structural flexibility and rigidity, resulting in a robust intra-/inter-chain through-space conjugation (TSC). The stable radicals within PDPM, coupled with strong TSC, yield a remarkable full-spectrum emission spanning from blue to NIR beyond 900 nm. This extensive tunability is achieved through careful adjustments of concentration and excitation wavelength. The findings highlight the efficacy of polymerization in stabilizing radicals and introduce a novel approach for d...

Mechanistic Approach Toward the C4-Selective Amination of Pyridines via Nucleophilic Substitution of Hydrogen
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Apr 8:e202401388. doi: 10.1002/anie.202401388. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe development of site-selective functionalization of N-heteroarenes is highly desirable in streamlined synthesis. In this context, direct amination of pyridines stands as an important synthetic methodology, with particular emphasis on accessing 4-aminopyridines, a versatile pharmacophore in medicinal chemistry. Herein, we report a reaction manifold for the C4-selective amination of pyridines by employing nucleophilic substitution of hydrogen (SNH). Through 4-pyridyl pyridinium salt intermediates, 4-aminopyridine prod...

High-performance Pyroelectric Property Accompanied by Spin Crossover in a Single Crystal of Fe(II)  Complex
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Apr 8:e202405514. doi: 10.1002/anie.202405514. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPyroelectric materials hold significant potential for energy harvesting, sensing, and imaging applications. However, achieving high-performance pyroelectricity across a wide temperature range near room temperature remains a significant challenge. Herein, we demonstrate a single crystal of Fe(II) spin-crossover compound shows remarkable pyroelectric properties accompanied by a thermally controlled spin transition. In this material, the uniaxial alignment of polar molecules results in a polarization of the lattice. As th...

Novel Photocatalyst Based on Through-Space Charge Transfer Induced Intersystem Crossing Enables Rapid and Efficient Polymerization Under Low-Power Excitation Light
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Apr 8:e202402774. doi: 10.1002/anie.202402774. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCurrently, most photoredox catalysis polymerization systems are limited by high excitation power, long polymerization time, or the requirement of electron donors due to the precise design of efficient photocatalysts still poses a great challenge. Herein, we propose a new approach: the creation of efficient photocatalysts having high ground state oxidation potentials and high excited state energy levels, along with through-space charge transfer induced intersystem crossing (ISC) properties. Using this strategy, a cabazo...

Recent Advances in Environmentally Friendly Dual-crosslinking Polymer Networks
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Apr 8:e202318035. doi: 10.1002/anie.202318035. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEnvironmentally friendly crosslinked polymer networks feature degradable covalent or non-covalent bonds, with many of them manifesting dynamic characteristics. These attributes enable convenient degradation, facile reprocessibility, and self-healing capabilities. However, the inherent instability of these crosslinking bonds often compromises the mechanical properties of polymer networks, limiting their practical applications. In this context, environmentally friendly dual-crosslinking polymer networks (denoted EF-DCPNs...

Metal-Organic Framework-Based Hetero-Phase Nanostructure via a Secondary Building Unit (SBU) Regulating Strategy for Efficient Photocatalysis
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Apr 8:e202402693. doi: 10.1002/anie.202402693. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs an effective method to modulate the physicochemical properties of materials, crystal phase engineering, especially hetero-phase, plays an important role in developing high-performance photocatalysts. However, it is still a huge challenge but significant to construct porous hetero-phase nanostructures with adjustable band structures. As a kind of unique porous crystalline materials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) might be the appropriate candidate, but the MOF-based hetero-phase is rarely reported. Herein, we develo...
