Advances in microfluidic technology for sperm screening and in vitro fertilization
Anal Bioanal Chem. 2024 Jan 8. doi: 10.1007/s00216-023-05120-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAbout 18% of reproductive-age adults worldwide are affected by infertility. In vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) are widely used assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) aimed at improving clinical outcomes. Efficient and noninvasive selection and isolation of highly motile sperm with intact DNA are essential for the success of IVF and ICSI and can potentially impact the therapeutic efficacy and the health of the offspring. Compared to traditional methods, microfluidic technology offers signifi...

Fluorescent aptasensor mediated with multiple ssDNA for sensitive detection of acetamiprid in vegetables based on magnetic Fe < sub > 3 < /sub > O < sub > 4 < /sub > /C-assisted separation
In this study, magnetic Fe3O4/carbon (Fe3O4/C), a derivative of metal-organic framework MIL-101 (Fe), was synthesized by a two-step calcination method. And a fluorescent sensing strategy was developed for the efficient and sensitive detection of ACE using Fe3O4/C and multiple complementary single-stranded DNA (ssDNA). By using aptamer with multiple complementary ssDNA, the immunity of interference of the aptasensor was improved, and the aptasensor showed high selectivity and sensitivity. When ACE was present, the aptamer (Apt) combined with ACE. The complementary strand of Apt (Cs1) combined with two short complementary st...

Volatile-compound fingerprinting and discrimination of positional isomers in stamp-pad ink tracing using HS-GC-IMS combined with multivariate statistical analysis
In this study, a comprehensive analysis of the volatile compounds in quick-drying stamp-pad inks from six commonly used brands were performed for the first time, utilizing a combination of headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (HS-GC-IMS) and multivariate statistical analysis methods. Visual and comparative analysis of the differential volatile components among different stamp-pad ink samples was conducted using fingerprints and volcano plots. A total of 127 volatile compounds were accurately identified, with ketones, esters, alcohols, and aldehydes being the most abundant compounds in the stamp-pad inks. ...

Lipophilic arsenic compounds in the cultured green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii
In this study, arsenic (As) speciation was investigated in the freshwater alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii treated with 20 μg/L arsenate using fractionation as well as ICP-MS/ESI-MS analyses and was compared with the known As metabolite profile of wild-grown Saccharina latissima. While the total As accumulation in C. reinhardtii was about 85% lower than in S. latissima, the relative percentage of arsenolipids was significantly higher in C. reinhardtii (57.0% vs. 5.01%). As-containing hydrocarbons and phospholipids dominated the hydrophobic As profile in S. latissima, but no As-containing hydrocarbons were detectable in C. r...

Development of an electrochemical sensitive aptasensor based on a zeolite imidazolate framework-8 and gold nanoparticles for the determination of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria
Anal Bioanal Chem. 2024 Jan 5. doi: 10.1007/s00216-023-05115-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStaphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is one of the most important pathogens that cause illness and food poisoning. In this research, using a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with zeolite imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF 8) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), a sensitive electrochemical aptasensor has been made for the detection of the S. aureus bacteria. The morphology of the prepared AuNPs-ZIF 8 nanocomposite has been carefully characterized by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM), field emission scanning electron microscop...

Artificial neural networks in the modeling of the catalytic activity of a biosensor composed of conjugated polymers and urease
Anal Bioanal Chem. 2024 Jan 5. doi: 10.1007/s00216-023-05114-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThin films of conjugated polymer and enzyme can be used to unravel the interaction between components in a biosensor. Using artificial neural networks (ANNs) improves data interpretability and helps construct models with great capacity for classifying and processing information. The present work used kinetic data from the catalytic activity of urease immobilized in different conjugated polymers to create ANN models using time, substrate concentration, and absorbance as input variables since the models had absorbance in a posterior...

Label-free detection of biomolecules using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS)
Anal Bioanal Chem. 2024 Jan 4. doi: 10.1007/s00216-023-05106-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBioassays using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) have gained increasing attention because of the high sensitivity of ICP-MS and the various strategies of labeling biomolecules with detectable metal tags. The classic strategy to tag the target biomolecules is through direct antibody-antigen interaction and DNA hybridization, and requires the separation of the bound from the unbound tags. Label-free ICP-MS techniques for biomolecular assays do not require direct labeling: they generate detectable metal ions indi...
