Impulsivity, sex-related alcohol expectancies, alcohol use, and sexual risk-taking among bisexual women
CONCLUSIONS: Findings from this study highlight mechanisms associated with risky drinking and sexual behaviors among this at-risk population. Such information could aid the development of more efficacious prevention and intervention programs aimed at reducing consequences associated with alcohol use and sexual risk-taking among bisexual women.SCIENTIFIC SIGNIFICANCE: Bisexual women are at heightened risk for alcohol-related problems, including sexual risk-taking. Findings from the current study identify impulsivity and sex-related alcohol expectancies as independent and integrative predictors of such risky behaviors. Incor...

Dissociation of drug and negative emotional cue induced attentional bias in individuals with methamphetamine-use disorder
CONCLUSIONS AND SCIENTIFIC SIGNIFICANCE: Attentional bias in individuals with MUD was highly selective for drug cues; thus, difficulty in attention disengagement from drug cues can be considered a potential mediating mechanism for attentional bias modification interventions for individuals with MUD. This study served to generate hypotheses or suggest future experiments on interventions for individuals with MUD.PMID:37924232 | DOI:10.1111/ajad.13500 (Source: American Journal on Addictions)

Trends in cocaine use among United States females of reproductive age, 2005-2019
CONCLUSIONS: Although the prevalence of cocaine use remains scarce among US females, the uptake in use after a period of initial decline is concerning, highlighting the need for continued public health awareness and action.SCIENTIFIC SIGNIFICANCE: Cocaine use among females of reproductive age is particularly concerning given the increased likelihood of transitioning to disordered use and the risk of use during pregnancy. Previous studies have not reported cocaine use estimates specific to reproductive age females or only reported co-drug use patterns, without detail of specific cocaine use trends.PMID:37924245 | DOI:10.111...

Gender differences in the prevalence of stimulant misuse in the United States: 2015-2019
CONCLUSIONS AND SCIENTIFIC SIGNIFICANCE: Illicit stimulant misuse continues to be more common in men than in women; however, gender differences are more modest for prescription stimulant misuse, suggesting a narrowing of this historical gender difference.PMID:37924248 | DOI:10.1111/ajad.13501 (Source: American Journal on Addictions)
