Ultrasonic characteristics and influencing factors of atherosclerosis in diabetic patients
CONCLUSION: Diabetic patients have a higher incidence of atherosclerosis, which is related to the duration of the diabetes mellitus and concomitant hypertension, so the monitoring of these patients needs to be strengthened. In addition, the administration of atorvastatin can better improve hyperlipidemia and slow down the development of atherosclerosis.PMID:35702108 | PMC:PMC9185038 (Source: American Journal of Translational Research)

Aneurysmal bone cyst secondary to giant cell tumor of the extremities: a case series of 30 patients
Am J Transl Res. 2022 May 15;14(5):3198-3206. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTThe purpose was to investigate the clinical features, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) secondary to giant cell tumors (GCT) of the extremities. Data from patients with ABC secondary to GCT of the extremities were obtained from the medical records. Clinical features, imaging findings, pathologic diagnosis, surgical methods, and prognosis were analyzed. The median age of the patients was 33 years (range 15 to 52 years) and 83.3 percent were between 20 to 40 years. The lesions were mainly located in the proximal tibia and d...

Successful treatment of symptomatic facet joint synovial cysts using C-arm fluoroscopy-guided percutaneous aspiration: report of two cases
Am J Transl Res. 2022 May 15;14(5):3547-3553. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTLumbar facet-joint synovial cysts are an important cause of back pain and radiculopathy. Treatment options for facet-joint synovial cysts include surgical excision, facet-joint steroid injections, and facet-joint cyst aspiration. Although percutaneous facet-joint synovial cyst aspiration is an effective and minimally invasive procedure for treating patients with symptomatic facet-joint synovial cysts, its success rate is known to be low. Here, we report out experience with treating two men using this approach. The men presented with back pain or radicul...

Integrated analysis reveals prognostic value and mesenchymal identity suppression by glycoprotein M6B in glioma
In this study, we analyzed the clinical and molecular characteristics of GPM6B using RNA sequencing data of glioma samples from the Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas (CGGA) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) datasets. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), western blot (WB), and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were performed for further validation. Moreover, a neurosphere formation assay, extreme limiting dilution assay, and bioluminescent imaging were employed to validate the therapeutic effects targeted on GPM6B in vitro and in vivo. We found lower expression of GPM6B in aggressive glioma. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) ana...

Characteristics of bile microbiota in cholelithiasis, perihilar cholangiocarcinoma, distal cholangiocarcinoma, and pancreatic cancer
This study retrospectively analyzed the differences in biliary microbes among patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA), distal cholangiocarcinoma (dCCA), pancreatic cancer (PC), and cholelithiasis (CH). Bile samples were obtained from 53 patients who underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and the bile microbiota was analyzed through 16S rRNA gene analysis and next-generation sequencing. Based on the results of linear discriminant analysis effect size (LEfSe), the top three biomarkers for pCCA at the genus level were Pseudomonas, Sphingomonas, and Halomonas; for dCCA were Streptococcus, Pr...

Dynamic transcriptome landscape of pulmonary tissues of rats infected with < em > Paragonimus proliferus < /em >
Am J Transl Res. 2022 May 15;14(5):3395-3406. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTParagonimiasis (pulmonary fluke disease) is a foodborne parasitic disease caused by trematode infections. Paragonimus proliferus is a characteristic Paragonimus species that was first identified in Yunnan Province of China. No direct evidence has yet proven that P. proliferus can infect humans. However, we previously found that P. proliferus infects and damages rat lung tissues via an unclear mechanism. Here, we infected Sprague Dawley rats with P. proliferus and sequenced their lung transcriptomes at various intervals thereafter. We detected P. prolife...

The effect of cold therapy combined with ERAS in the postoperative care of patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty
CONCLUSION: The cold therapy combined with ERAS for patients undergoing TKA can improve the postoperative swelling and pain of the affected limb, inspire patients' autonomy in postoperative rehabilitation training, shorten the time to out-of-bed activity, prevent patients from developing venous thrombosis, promote recovery of knee function, and improve patients' postoperative self-care ability and quality of life.PMID:35702121 | PMC:PMC9185063 (Source: American Journal of Translational Research)

Biomechanics of the unilateral posterosuperior, unipedicular, and bipedicular approaches for treatment by percutaneous vertebroplasty: a comparative study
This study compared the biomechanical performance of a single vertebral body after PVP by the unilateral posterosuperior, unipedicular, and bipedicular approaches. Twenty-one vertebral bodies from the osteoporotic spine segments (T11-L1) of seven older female cadavers were randomly assigned to the unipedicular (group A), bipedicular (group B), or unilateral posterosuperior approach group (group C). After constructing the fracture compression model, PVP was performed by the different approaches. CT scans showed symmetrical, evenly distributed bone cement in groups B and C and unilaterally distributed cement in group A. The ...
