Morphometric analysis of the nasal septum in normal Chinese individuals using a three-dimensional model of the nasal septum with facial CT scanning
CONCLUSIONS: The reconstructed 3D model of the nasal septum demonstrates that the septal volume was larger in males than in females, and the ratio of vomer volume and cartilage volume to total septal volume changed with age, which may provide a reference for clinical treatment.PMID:35559395 | PMC:PMC9091117 (Source: American Journal of Translational Research)

The promising role and prognostic value of miR-198 in human diseases
The objective of this article is to explore the abnormal expression of miR-198 in a variety of human diseases. The relationships between abnormally expressed miR-198 and clinicopathological characteristics are also summarized. Its roles in various diseases and potential molecular mechanisms include involvement in many biological processes, such as cell cycle regulation, proliferation, invasion, migration, apoptosis, and drug resistance. The potential value of miR-198 for disease diagnosis, treatment, and especially, prognosis, are discussed. More in-depth research on miRNA will support the conversion from basic research to...

Clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of lymphoma patients initially presenting with fever of unknown origin
CONCLUSION: We found that the subtypes of lymphoma initially presenting with FUO were mostly B-NHL and T-NHL. The detection of ferritin levels during the hospital stay may help predict the long-term survival rate in patients with FUO.PMID:35559398 | PMC:PMC9091104 (Source: American Journal of Translational Research)

Association between chronic kidney disease and cancer including the mortality of cancer patients: national health and nutrition examination survey 1999-2014
CONCLUSION: CKD is significantly associated only with genitourinary cancer among different types of cancer. CKD is an independent risk factor for survival in cancer patients, regardless of the type of cancer. Monitoring and maintaining the renal function of cancer patients is essential for prolonging their life.PMID:35559400 | PMC:PMC9091102 (Source: American Journal of Translational Research)

Endoscopic- versus x-ray-guidance for placement of nasojejunal tubes in critically ill patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Am J Transl Res. 2022 Apr 15;14(4):2134-2146. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTNasojejunal tubes (NJTs) are increasingly used in critically ill patients. NJT insertion with endoscopic- or x-ray-guidance can be achieved with success rates above 90%. This systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) compares the efficiency and safety of these two methods in critically ill patients. We searched Chinese and English databases for RCTs comparing endoscopy- and x-ray-guided NJT placement published up to July 5, 2021. Meta-analyses were performed using RevMan5 software to compute mean differences (MDs) and od...

Trend analysis of drug overdose deaths before and during the COVID-19 pandemic
Am J Transl Res. 2022 Apr 15;14(4):2685-2688. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTData from a single state indicated there was an increase in opioid overdose related emergency services during the COVID-19 pandemic. The current study examined the provisional rolling 12-month drug overdose deaths between January 2019 and October 2021 at the national, state, and specific-drug levels, to identify trends in drug-overdose deaths before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The trend in provisional U.S. drug overdose deaths accelerated at the beginning of the pandemic (December 2019). This acceleration slowed in the middle of pandemic (October ...

Comparison of Intra- and postoperative effectiveness of erector spinae plane block and patient controlled analgesia in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery
Am J Transl Res. 2022 Apr 15;14(4):2469-2479. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTThe aim of our study was to compare bilateral erector spinae plane block (ESPB) efficacy on pain management with patient controlled analgesia (PCA) during the perioperative period in patients scheduled for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). After ethics committee approval (2019-7/31 dated 09.04.2019) from the Bursa Uludağ University Medical Trials Ethics Committee, (https://uludag.edu.tr/buuetikkurulu) ASA II-III, 50 patients aged between 18-80 years were included. They were randomly divided into two groups, ESPB (n=25) and control (n=25). In the ...

The Haoqin-Huaban formula alleviates UVB-induced skin damage through HOXA11-AS-mediated stabilization of EZH2
In this study, we found that administration of HQHB inhibited, in a dose-dependent manner, UVB-induced skin damage by eliminating oxidative stress. HQHB was found to upregulate HOXA11-AS expression by activating HIF-1α. Furthermore, HOXA11-AS stabilized the EZH2 protein by inhibiting its ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation. Consequently, rescue assays demonstrated that HOXA11-AS promoted proliferation and inhibited apoptosis in HaCaT cells by reducing oxidative stress. Taken together, our results help to elucidate the function and regulatory mechanism of HQHB in reducing UVB-induced skin damage.PMID:35559404 | PMC:...
