The research landscape of oxidative stress in osteoarthritis from 1998 to 2021: a systematic bibliometric analysis
CONCLUSION: The burgeoning body of literature pertaining to oxidative stress in OA has experienced a consistent growth over the past few decades, and this field will garner widespread attention and in-depth investigation. The frontier of chondrocyte senescence, as revealed by bibliometric analyses, represents a special focus of this field, with potential as a vital therapeutic target for OA.PMID:38322571 | PMC:PMC10839404 (Source: American Journal of Translational Research)

Compressed sensing magnetic resonance imaging (CS-MRI) diagnosis of rotator cuff tears
CONCLUSION: CS-MRI provides high resolution for muscles, tendons, and soft tissues, significantly contributing to the diagnosis of soft tissue injuries. Although there were no significant differences in the sensitivity and specificity of CS-MRI for the clinical diagnosis of rotator cuff tears compared to the clinical signs, CS-MRI significantly improved the diagnostic accuracy.PMID:38322573 | PMC:PMC10839380 (Source: American Journal of Translational Research)

ROS-induced oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction: a possible mechanism responsible for noise-induced ribbon synaptic damage
Am J Transl Res. 2024 Jan 15;16(1):272-284. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTEvidence suggests that damage to the ribbon synapses (RS) may be the main cause of auditory dysfunction in noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Oxidative stress is implicated in the pathophysiology of synaptic damage. However, the relationship between oxidative stress and RS damage in NIHL remains unclear. To investigate the hypothesis that noise-induced oxidative stress is a key factor in synaptic damage within the inner ear, we conducted a study using mice subjected to single or repeated noise exposure (NE). We assessed auditory function using auditory br...

Metformin alleviates genetic and traumatic heterotopic ossification by inhibiting infiltration and mitochondrial metabolism of myeloid cells
CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that metformin suppresses HO development by potentially downregulating the mitochondrial metabolism of myeloid cells, offering a promising therapeutic option for HO treatment.PMID:38322576 | PMC:PMC10839392 (Source: American Journal of Translational Research)

Multiple spontaneous isolated arterial dissections: a rare case report
We present a rare case where a routine thoracic computed tomography (CT) scan showed a type B aortic dissection. Medical records showed that the patient previously had been diagnosed with bilateral spontaneous isolated internal carotid artery dissections, which caused an attack of amaurosis fugax a few months earlier. The patient was asymptomatic during the admission with type B aortic dissection. However, the patient had a high blood pressure which was medically treated. A new CT scan confirmed earlier findings and revealed a spontaneous isolated dissection in the superior mesenteric artery. No progression was seen when t...
