Age Estimation and Gender Attribution in Typically Developing Children and Children With Dysarthria
CONCLUSIONS: Children with dysarthria are more difficult to estimate for their age and gender than their typically developing peers. Dysarthria thus alters the auditory-perceptual impression of indexical speech features in children, which must be considered another facet of the communication disorder associated with childhood dysarthria.PMID:38416062 | DOI:10.1044/2023_AJSLP-23-00246 (Source: American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology)

Evaluating Anterior and Posterior Oral Tongue Contributions to Pressure Generation: A Comparison Between Regular and Effortful Saliva Swallows
CONCLUSIONS: Tongue pressure generation was affected by the type of instruction used to elicit ESs, and the posterior tongue showed relatively greater pressure contributions than the anterior tongue for ESs with tongue emphasis and SSs. Furthermore, age-related declines in pressure generation during swallowing were not evidenced in this study, underscoring the ability of healthy older individuals to appropriately modulate lingual pressure during ESs. Last, our results showed that the visual analog scale is a simple tool for rating swallowing effort during ESs, supporting its potential clinical use to train ESs.PMID:3841605...

Social Communication and Parent Verbal Responsiveness Across Interaction Contexts in Toddlers on the Autism Spectrum
CONCLUSION: Results provide a glimpse into the dyadic communication that may occur within everyday activities at home, which supports the need for future intervention research and may aid clinicians seeking to identify activities that serve as important contexts for intervention.PMID:38407116 | DOI:10.1044/2024_AJSLP-23-00319 (Source: American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology)

Working Toward Recommended Terminology in the Canadian Preschool Speech-Language Pathology Context
CONCLUSIONS: Despite having intentions to adopt the recommended labels, the lack of implementation by SLPs suggests the presence of additional barriers impacting their use of the recommended clinical labels in practice. Future work should investigate clinician-identified barriers to inform future implementation efforts.SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL: https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.25254940.PMID:38387874 | DOI:10.1044/2024_AJSLP-23-00414 (Source: American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology)

Do Caregiver Perceptions of the Virtual More Than Words < sup > ® < /sup > Program Differ Based on Autistic Children's Attributes?
CONCLUSIONS: Findings suggest that the content taught in the MTW program was relevant for a variety of children, including those beyond the program's intended age of 5 years and under. Grouping families of children with varying profiles does not appear to negatively influence caregivers' experiences or perceived outcomes.SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL: https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.25237009.PMID:38381120 | DOI:10.1044/2024_AJSLP-23-00278 (Source: American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology)

Designing a Module on Stuttering and Cluttering: A Guide for Speech-Language Pathology Educators
CONCLUSIONS: Educators are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the seven components of the AISHE model and to use it as a tool to design or revise modules on stuttering and cluttering. This will ensure that SLP students are graduating with increased competence and confidence in working with these client groups.PMID:38363726 | DOI:10.1044/2024_AJSLP-23-00263 (Source: American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology)
