Expression of NMU and NMUR1 in tryptase-positive mast cells and PBLs in allergic rhinitis patients' nasal mucosa
CONCLUSION: Our findings showed that NMU could not influence human nasal tryptase + mast cells directly through NMUR1 in AR. The co-expression of both NMU and NMUR1 with tryptase in the PBLs provided new insight into the potential roles of NMU and tryptase in the circulation PBLs, and the infiltrated PBLs may promote nasal allergic inflammation by producing tryptase and NMU.PMID:38378005 | DOI:10.1177/19458924241228764 (Source: American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy)

The Surprising Effect of Priming on SNOT-22 Results
CONCLUSIONS: Priming impacts how patient's perceive their chronic rhinosinusitis as determined by the SNOT-22. It is imperative that the rhinologist understand this when using this instrument in research applications and in clinical decision-making for patients.PMID:38332587 | DOI:10.1177/19458924241229160 (Source: American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy)

Higher Risk of Rheumatoid Arthritis in Patients With Chronic Rhinosinusitis: Prospective Association in the U.K. Biobank and Genetic Evidence by Mendelian Randomization Analysis
CONCLUSION: CRS has a genetically causal effect on the incidence of RA, and the risk of RA is greatly higher in CRS at the individual level. This is the first study to reveal an association between CRS and RA. Due to the high incidence of CRS, it is recommended that additional attention should be paid to the increased RA risk in patients with CRS compared to that in common people.PMID:38225197 | DOI:10.1177/19458924231225488 (Source: American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy)

MicroRNA-125b Is a Potential Predictor of Surgical Outcomes in Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Nasal Polyps
CONCLUSION: A clear, robust relation between nasal polyp control evaluated through objective measures and miR-125b values was observed. This finding indicates the potential role of miR-125b in predicting the course of the disease following ESS.PMID:38192070 | DOI:10.1177/19458924231224343 (Source: American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy)

Treatment, Management, and Otolaryngology Consultation for Epistaxis in the Emergency Room: An Institutional Experience
CONCLUSION: The high percentage of patients referred or transferred to the ED for epistaxis management with no change in interventions after ENT consultation indicates a continued need to develop more precise clinical care pathways. Additionally, there may be gaps between White and non-White patients in access to ENT care.PMID:38155492 | DOI:10.1177/19458924231223348 (Source: American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy)
