Cardioprotective Response and Senescence in Aged sEH Null Female Mice Exposed to LPS
Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol. 2024 Apr 5. doi: 10.1152/ajpheart.00706.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDeterioration of physiological systems, like the cardiovascular system, occurs progressively with age impacting an individual's health and increasing susceptibility to injury and disease. Cellular senescence has an underlying role in age-related alterations and can be triggered by natural aging or prematurely by stressors such as the bacterial toxin, lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The metabolism of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) by CYP450 enzymes produces numerous bioactive lipid mediators that can be further metabo...

Disturbed flow in the juxta-anastomotic area of an arteriovenous fistula correlates with endothelial loss, acute thrombus formation and neointimal hyperplasia
CONCLUSION: Disturbed flow through the JAA correlates with rapid endothelial cell loss, thrombus formation, and JANIH; late endothelialization of the JAA channel correlates with late AVF patency. Early thrombus formation in the JAA may influence later development of JANIH.PMID:38578237 | DOI:10.1152/ajpheart.00054.2024 (Source: American Journal of Physiology. Heart and Circulatory Physiology)

Strategies for Inducing and Validating Zinc Deficiency and Zinc Repletion
Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol. 2024 Apr 5. doi: 10.1152/ajpheart.00025.2024. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGiven the growing interest in the role of zinc in the onset and progression of diseases, there is a crucial demand for reliable methods to modulate zinc homeostasis. Using a dietary approach, we provide validated strategies to alter whole-body zinc in mice, applicable across species. For confirmation of zinc status, animal growth rates as well as plasma and urine zinc levels were evaluated. The accessible and cost-effective methodology outlined will increase scientific rigor, ensuring reproducibility in studies expl...
