The Childhood Opportunity Index's Association with Adverse Pregnancy and Newborn Outcomes in Nulliparous Persons
Conclusion COI, a marker for social determinants of health, is independently associated with APOs. The COI may be a tool for risk stratification for pregnant people to help with APO-reducing strategies. A Scoping Review of the Oral Microbiome in Preterm Infants
Am J Perinatol DOI: 10.1055/s-0043-1776344The purpose of this scoping review was to examine the oral microbiome composition in preterm infants, sampling and collection methods, as well as exposures associated with oral microbiome composition and health implications. We conducted a scoping review of the literature using the Arskey and O'Malley framework. We identified a total of 13 articles which met our inclusion criteria and purpose of this scoping review. Articles included in this review compared the oral microbiome in preterm infants to term infants, examined alterations to the oral microbiome over time, compared the or...

Comparison of Anti-SARS-CoV-2-Specific Antibody Signatures in Maternal and Infant Blood after COVID-19 Infection versus COVID-19 Vaccination during Pregnancy
Conclusion Timing of vaccination had no correlation to the antibody levels suggesting that the timing of maternal vaccination in the cohort did not matter. There was no IgM detected in infants from vaccinated mothers. Infants from vaccinated mothers had robust IgG titers to RBD, which have a lasting protective effect in infants. Interpersonal Influences on the Choice to Treat Nausea during Pregnancy with Medication or Cannabis
Conclusion Medication group participants reported entirely positive feedback from providers and often did not mention any feedback at all from partners, family, and friends. Cannabis group participants reported much more varied feedback, both positive and negative, from a variety of interpersonal contacts and sometimes decided to conceal their treatment choice after receiving or fearing negative feedback. We recommend further research into the health outcomes of pregnant patients who chose not to discuss their treatment decisions with providers, family, partners, or friends. We also suggest further study of possible reas...

Drug-Induced Hypoglycemia in Neonates Born to Nondiabetic Women Treated with Medications during the Pregnancy or the Labor: A Systematic Review of the Literature
Am J Perinatol DOI: 10.1055/s-0043-1776061The prompt identification of at-risk newborns for drug-induced hypoglycemia can minimize the risk for adverse side effects, inappropriate investigations, and considerable unnecessary costs. Existing literature discusses drug-induced hypoglycemia, but a systematic description of neonatal hypoglycemia induced or exacerbated by maternal medications is missing. We reviewed the association between neonatal hypoglycemia and maternal medications. We systematically searched the literature according to the PICOS model on drug-induced hypoglycemia in neonates born to nondiabetic women treate...

Prevalence and Risk Factors for Tube-Feeding at Discharge in Infants following Early Congenital Heart Disease Surgery: A Single-Center Cohort Study
Conclusion The prevalence of TF at discharge in our study is comparable to previous studies. Infants with CHD admitted at birth, received higher presurgery milk calories, and clinical GERD are significant risk factors for TF. Mitigating the effects of identified risk factors for TF will have significant impact on the quality of life for these infants and their families and may reduce health care cost. Predictors and Trends in First-Trimester Hemoglobin A1c Screening in New York City, 2009 to 2017
We examined trends and maternal predictors for those who had A1c screening in early pregnancy using hospital discharge and vital registry data between 2009 and 2017 linked with the New York City A1C Registry (N = 798,312). First-trimester A1c screening increased from 2.3% in 2009 to 7.7% in 2017. The likelihood of screening became less targeted to high-risk patients over time, with a decrease in mean A1c values from 5.8% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 5.8, 5.9) to 5.3 (95% CI: 5.3, 5.4). The prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus increased while testing became less discriminate for those with high-risk factors, in...
