Sensory Gating to Speech and Nonspeech Stimulus and Its Relationship to Speech Perception in Noise
CONCLUSION: The results of this preliminary investigation indicate an association between the sensory gating mechanism and neurotypical individuals' ability to perceive speech in noise.PMID:37725711 | DOI:10.1044/2023_AJA-23-00094 (Source: American Journal of Audiology)

Dementia and Hearing Aid Use and Cessation: A National Study
CONCLUSIONS: Older adults with (vs. without) dementia are more likely to cease hearing aid use over time, most notably during the first year after adoption. Strategies to support hearing ability, such as self-management or care partner education, may improve communication for those living with co-occurring hearing loss and dementia.PMID:37713529 | DOI:10.1044/2023_AJA-23-00038 (Source: American Journal of Audiology)

Experiences of Patient Bigotry Among Doctor of Audiology Graduate Clinicians: A Review and Recommendations
CONCLUSIONS: As health care workers, these students are essential workers contributing to the health and health care of the population, making their well-being a critical public health concern. Bigotry from others has been shown to contribute to mental illness, burnout, and poorer physical health among the people experiencing it.PMID:37708495 | DOI:10.1044/2023_AJA-23-00022 (Source: American Journal of Audiology)

The Interaural Time Difference for High-Pass Filtered Noise and Its Relationship With Brainstem Dysfunction and Disability in Multiple Sclerosis
CONCLUSIONS: This study supports the findings that JND-ITD for high-pass filtered noise is a sensitive test to detect lesions along the auditory system. Even though JND-ITD thresholds did not relate with BFSS and EDSS scores, JND-ITD abnormalities can be of great value in identifying lesions along the auditory system, especially in the early stages of MS, when clinical neurological examination does not show any signs of brainstem dysfunction, disability, and MRI without any lesions in the brain.PMID:37678147 | DOI:10.1044/2023_AJA-22-00184 (Source: American Journal of Audiology)
