Incident depression among Medicare beneficiaries with disabilities and HIV
Objective: Despite disproportionally high prevalence of HIV and depression in persons with disabilities, no data have been published on the incidence and correlates of depression in Medicare beneficiaries with disabilities. We assessed the effect of HIV infection on developing depression in this population. Design: We conducted a retrospective matched cohort study using a 5% sample of Medicare beneficiaries who qualified for disability coverage (1996–2015). Methods: Beneficiaries with incident (n = 2438) and prevalent (n = 5758) HIV were individually matched with beneficiaries without HIV (HIVâˆ...

Risk of subarachnoid haemorrhages and aneurysms in Danish people with HIV
Conclusion: PWH were not at an increased risk of cerebral, aortic or other arterial aneurysms and dissections. Although PWH were at an increased risk of subarachnoid haemorrhage, subarachnoid haemorrhages were rare among PWH. (Source: AIDS)

Years of life lost to cancer among the United States HIV population, 2006–2015
Conclusion: PWH have higher mortality rates after developing cancer. NHL, Kaposi sarcoma and anal and lung cancers were large contributors to YLL to cancer in the United States population of PWH, highlighting opportunities to reduce cancer mortality through improved access to antiretroviral treatment, prevention, and screening. Measles seroprevalence in human immunodeficiency virus-infected adults born in the era of measles vaccination
Objective: Widespread use of the measles vaccine should lead to the elimination of this disease. Here, we study the seroprevalence of measles in a cohort of adults living with HIV born after the introduction of measles vaccine in France and attempt to identify risk factors for the absence of serum measles antibody. Design: In this multi-centre cross-sectional study, adult outpatients born after 1980 were screened for the presence of measles IgG antibody. Demographic and clinical data were obtained from the standardized electronic medical record system. Univariate and multivariate logistic regressions were perfor...

Cytomegalovirus viremia and risk of disease progression and death in HIV-positive patients starting antiretroviral therapy
Conclusion: Baseline CMV viremia in HIV-positive patients starting ART is associated with advanced infection and only persistent CMV viremia after ART initiation is associated with a higher risk of morbidity and mortality. (Source: AIDS)

Surrogate neutralization responses following severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 vaccination in people with HIV: comparison between inactivated and mRNA vaccine
Objective: People with HIV (PWH) co-infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are at higher odds of severe diseases. Whereas the immunogenicity of mRNA vaccine and adenovirus-vectored vaccine was similar between PWH in stable condition and healthy adults, the effects of inactivated vaccines are not known. Design: Prospective longitudinal observational study in real-world setting. Methods: Adult PWH in care and planning to receive either inactivated (day 0 and day 28) or mRNA-based (day 0 and day 21) vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 were recruited, with blood samples collected ov...

Kynurenine/tryptophan ratio for detection of active tuberculosis in adults with HIV prior to antiretroviral therapy
Objective : The aim of this study was to assess the performance of kynurenine/tryptophan ratio for tuberculosis (TB) case-finding among antiretroviral therapy (ART)-naive people with HIV (PWH), and to investigate other factors associated with kynurenine/tryptophan ratio in this population. Design : A nested case--control study based on a cohort of 812 ambulatory PWH in the Oromia region, Ethiopia. Methods : At enrolment, all participants submitted sputum samples for bacteriological TB investigations. Concentrations of kynurenine and tryptophan in plasma were quantified using liquid chromatography-mass spe...

Estimating the minimum antiretroviral adherence required for plasma HIV-1 RNA viral load suppression among people living with HIV who use unregulated drugs
Objectives: Owing to advances in antiretroviral therapy (ART), we re-examined minimum ART adherence levels necessary to achieve sustained HIV-1 viral load (VL) suppression among people with HIV who use drugs (PHIV-PWUD). Design and methods: We used data from ACCESS, a community-recruited prospective cohort of PHIV-PWUD in Vancouver, Canada. We calculated adherence using the proportion of days of ART dispensed in the year before each VL measurement. We used generalized linear mixed-effects models to identify adherence- and ART regimen-related correlates of VL suppression ( (Source: AIDS)

The cost-effectiveness of a resilience-based psychosocial intervention for HIV prevention among MSM in India
Conclusion: A resilience-based psychosocial intervention integrated with HIV risk reduction counseling among MSM in India would reduce HIV infections and be cost-effective. Programs using this approach should be expanded as a part of comprehensive HIV prevention in India. (Source: AIDS)

Sex differences in cytokine profiles during suppressive antiretroviral therapy
Conclusion: The observed sex-based differences in cytokines might contribute to higher immune activation in women compared with men despite suppressive therapy. Increased levels of IL-7 in women suggest that homeostatic proliferation may have a differential contribution to HIV reservoir maintenance in female and male individuals. Our study emphasizes the importance of sex-specific studies of viral pathogenesis. (Source: AIDS)

Anti-CD4 autoantibodies in immunological nonresponder people with HIV: cause of CD4+ T-cell depletion?
Conclusion: Our results suggest that autologous anti-CD4 IgG neither trigger CD4+ T-cell death by ADCC nor are responsible for CD4+ lymphocyte depletion in INR. (Source: AIDS)
