Experiences of people living with HIV in low- and middle-income countries and their perspectives in self-management: a meta-synthesis
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION: PLWH encounter multiple challenges, are not empowered enough to manage their own chronic condition, and their needs beyond medical care are not addressed by service providers. Self-management practice of these patients is poor, and service providers do not follow service delivery approaches that empower patients to be at the center of their own care and to achieve an effective and sustainable outcome from treatment. These findings call for a comprehensive well thought self-management interventions.PMID:38297363 | PMC:PMC10829476 | DOI:10.1186/s12981-024-00595-7 (Source: AIDS Research and Therapy)

Hypertension among persons living with HIV/AIDS and its association with HIV-related health factors
CONCLUSION: Hypertension was a common condition among PLHIV on antiretroviral medications. No HIV-related health factors were associated with hypertension. Traditional risk factors associated with hypertension were increased age > 50 years, increased BMI, and a history of comorbid medical conditions.PMID:38212762 | PMC:PMC10782598 | DOI:10.1186/s12981-023-00576-2 (Source: AIDS Research and Therapy)

Bifocal malakoplakia in a patient living with HIV: case report
CONCLUSION: This report presents a distinctive and complex case of malakoplakia in an HIV-positive patient, a rare inflammatory disorder originally described by Michaelis and Gutmann in 1902. The hallmark Michaelis-Gutmann organisms were observed, confirming the diagnosis. While typically affecting the urinary tract, this case demonstrates the exceptional ability of malakoplakia to manifest in various organ systems, including pulmonary, gastrointestinal, and more. Although Escherichia coli is a prevalent associated pathogen, the exact cause remains elusive. Treatment, often involving surgical excision and antibiotic therap...
