Caregiver experience of the Norwegian manual for individual cognitive stimulation therapy (iCST): a qualitative study
CONCLUSION: When the carer understands the iCST programme as a tool and adapts it to the specific needs of the person with dementia then co-occupation and positive interactions happen. However, some carers would benefit from supervision and the iCST programme did not address all persons with dementia.PMID:38356118 | DOI:10.1080/13607863.2024.2313725 (Source: Aging and Mental Health)

Patterns of suicide intent disclosures among older adult decedents, 2016-2018: a qualitative analysis
CONCLUSION: Findings from this work suggest the content of suicide intent disclosures may vary considerably but demonstrate consistent patterns. Dismissal of such disclosures is a common response, likely due to inability to assess sincerity. Given the high rate of lethality among suicide attempts in late life, any intent disclosures should be critically evaluated.PMID:38344991 | DOI:10.1080/13607863.2024.2313734 (Source: Aging and Mental Health)

Prospective exploration of the role of combined internalizing symptoms in self-reported memory among older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic
CONCLUSIONS: Pre-pandemic depression predicted a decline in SRM regardless of anxiety. Moderation analyses revealed that the extent to which anxiety symptoms influenced SRM was dependent on depression being at or above the mean. Those with high anxiety and depression are at highest risk of experiencing cognitive consequences related to stressful exposures like COVID-19.PMID:38285681 | DOI:10.1080/13607863.2023.2297049 (Source: Aging and Mental Health)

Unpaid carers' experiences of supporting people with dementia to use social media
Conclusions: These findings shed light on the complexities of caring in the digital age. Many carers are supporting people with dementia in using social media, but there is little guidance on how best to do this. As older adults continue to embrace social media, carers, support organisations, and policymakers must adapt and work with technology developers to ensure safe and supportive online experiences.PMID:38217299 | DOI:10.1080/13607863.2024.2301725 (Source: Aging and Mental Health)
