A systematic review of psychosocial interventions for people with intellectual disabilities and dementia
CONCLUSION: There is emerging evidence for several psychosocial interventions for people with ID and dementia, though further research is required on effectiveness and generalisability. The adaptations discussed may guide implementation into routine care and contribute to current policies and guidelines on improving ID and dementia care.PMID:37811724 | DOI:10.1080/13607863.2023.2265322 (Source: Aging and Mental Health)

Living with Parkinson's in England during and beyond COVID-19 restrictions: a longitudinal qualitative study
CONCLUSION: As currently the only published study to provide an in-depth longitudinal analysis with this population, we used a more dynamic theoretical account, Strauss and Corbin's theory of illness trajectories, to understand the findings and suggest ways of supporting individuals with Parkinson's in this stage of the pandemic. The scale and breadth of the support needed is a significant challenge for current statutory systems.PMID:37811733 | DOI:10.1080/13607863.2023.2265319 (Source: Aging and Mental Health)

Individual-level community-based social capital and depressive symptoms among older adults in urban China: the moderating effects of socioeconomic status
CONCLUSION: Future social capital policies and interventions should adopt different strategies to provide services to older adults from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Furthermore, educational programs should promote the effects of cognitive social capital on depressive symptoms later in life.PMID:37811736 | DOI:10.1080/13607863.2023.2265865 (Source: Aging and Mental Health)

Mental health effects of adult children's outmigration on older parents in Central and Eastern Europe
CONCLUSION: This study suggests that older parents with migrant children over 500 km away should be considered a vulnerable population at risk for mental health in CEE countries. It is crucial for local governments and policymakers to address these challenges through improving integrated mental health and social programs for better mental health outcomes among older adults in CEE countries.PMID:37811709 | DOI:10.1080/13607863.2023.2260327 (Source: Aging and Mental Health)

Evaluation of the SPAN intervention for people living with young-onset dementia in the community and their family caregivers: a randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSION: Although the SPAN-intervention may provide concrete opportunities to engage in activities and stimulate reciprocity, such as meaningful social activities, this study did not demonstrate intervention effects. Additional qualitative evaluations may provide more insight into the implementation process and experiences of people living with YOD and their family caregivers. This trial was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02937883).PMID:37776001 | DOI:10.1080/13607863.2023.2260335 (Source: Aging and Mental Health)
