Complications After Prepectoral Versus Subpectoral Breast Reconstruction in Patients Receiving Postmastectomy Radiation Therapy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
ConclusionsData from observational studies indicates that in appropriately selected patients there may not be any difference in the risk of early complications with prepectoral or subpectoral breast reconstruction with PMRT. Current evidence is limited by the small number of studies, short follow-up and selection bias. There is a need for randomized controlled trials comparing the two approaches to obtain robust evidence on long-term outcomes.Level of Evidence IIIThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Medical Specialist Care Utilization Prior to the Explantation of Cosmetic Silicone Breast Implants: A Nationwide Retrospective Data Linkage Study
ConclusionsWomen who underwent explantation of breast implants had higher utilization of medical specialist care in the years before explantation compared to women who underwent breast implant replacement surgery and women without breast implants. Medical specialist care use was especially high among women for whom BII was the registered reason for explantation. These findings suggest further research is needed into the link between BII and the use of medical specialist care.Level of Evidence IIIThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Direct-to-Implant Retropectoral Dual Plane Approach With Autologous Inferior-Based Dermal Flap: Does SPY-Elite Laser Angiographic System Reduce Complication Rates?
ConclusionInferior dermal flaps have considerable advantages, such as a natural autologous blood supply, a more realistic tissue thickness and texture, lower costs, and better tolerance to post-reconstruction radiation. Moreover, using the IDF technique and assessing the perfusion of IDF and mastectomy flaps through the SPY-Elite laser angiographic system appears to be a dependable, efficient way to achieve good cosmetic results in one operation, eliminating the need for additional surgeries.Level of Evidence IV This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article.
