Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRemote sensing technology, which conventionally employs spectrometers to capture hyperspectral images, allowing for the classification and unmixing based on the reflectance spectrum, has been extensively applied in diverse fields, including environmental monitoring, land resource management, and agriculture. However, miniaturization of remote sensing systems remains a challenge due to the complicated and dispersive optical components of spectrometers. Here, m-phase GaTe0.5Se0.5 with wide-spectral photoresponses (250-1064 nm) a...

Second phase Cu < sub > 2 < /sub > O boosted photocatalytic activity of fluorine doped CuO nanoparticles
RSC Adv. 2024 Apr 11;14(17):11677-11693. doi: 10.1039/d3ra08790e. eCollection 2024 Apr 10.ABSTRACTThe photocatalytic activity of fluorine (F) doped CuO nanoparticles (NPs) prepared employing modified sol-gel process was investigated here in this study. Structural and elemental characterization using XRD and XPS data confirmed successful incorporation of F as dopant. F doping led to lattice distortion and reduced crystallinity with smaller crystallite size while promoting the emergence of Cu2O as the second phase. Morphological analysis showed irregularly shaped, fused particles with a decreasing particle size trend upon do...

Reactive cutaneous capillary endothelial proliferation following camrelizumab monotherapy or combination therapy for multi-cancers: a large-scale pooled analysis of 10 studies in China
CONCLUSION: Although RCCEP occurred frequently with camrelizumab, most lesions were mild and self-limiting. The occurrence of RCCEP was strongly associated with the antitumor activity and survival of camrelizumab, both as monotherapy and in combination therapy.PMID:38606164 | PMC:PMC11008344 | DOI:10.1177/17588359241242607 (Source: Adv Data)

Text-mining-based feature selection for anticancer drug response prediction
In this study, we utilize features (genes) extracted using the text-mining of scientific literatures. Using two independent cancer pharmacogenomic datasets, we demonstrate that text-mining-based features outperform traditional feature selection techniques in machine learning tasks. In addition, our analysis reveals that text-mining feature-based machine learning models trained on in vitro data also perform well when predicting the response of in vivo cancer models. Our results demonstrate that text-mining-based feature selection is an easy to implement approach that is suitable for building machine learning models for anti...

Adapting beyond borders: Insights from the 19th Student Council Symposium (SCS2023), the first hybrid ISCB Student Council global event
Bioinform Adv. 2024 Apr 3;4(1):vbae028. doi: 10.1093/bioadv/vbae028. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTSUMMARY: The 19th ISCB Student Council Symposium (SCS2023) organized by ISCB-SC adopted a hybrid format for the first time, allowing participants to engage in-person in Lyon, France, and virtually via an interactive online platform. The symposium prioritized inclusivity, featuring on-site sessions, poster presentations, and social activities for in-person attendees, while virtual participants accessed live sessions, interactive Q&A, and a virtual exhibit hall. Attendee statistics revealed a global reach, with Europe as the maj...

Extending BioMASS to construct mathematical models from external knowledge
Bioinform Adv. 2024 Apr 4;4(1):vbae042. doi: 10.1093/bioadv/vbae042. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTMOTIVATION: Mechanistic modeling based on ordinary differential equations has led to numerous findings in systems biology by integrating prior knowledge and experimental data. However, the manual curation of knowledge necessary when constructing models poses a bottleneck. As the speed of knowledge accumulation continues to grow, there is a demand for a scalable means of constructing executable models.RESULTS: We previously introduced BioMASS-an open-source, Python-based framework-to construct, simulate, and analyze mechanistic mod...

Understanding Deep Gradient Leakage via Inversion Influence Functions
Adv Neural Inf Process Syst. 2023 Dec;36:3921-3944.ABSTRACTDeep Gradient Leakage (DGL) is a highly effective attack that recovers private training images from gradient vectors. This attack casts significant privacy challenges on distributed learning from clients with sensitive data, where clients are required to share gradients. Defending against such attacks requires but lacks an understanding of when and how privacy leakage happens, mostly because of the black-box nature of deep networks. In this paper, we propose a novel Inversion Influence Function (I2F) that establishes a closed-form connection between the recovered i...

Predictors of fall protection motivation among older adults in rural communities in a middle-income country: A cross-sectional study using the Protection Motivation Theory
CONCLUSION: Findings from this study demonstrated that coping appraisal and fear predict the protection motivation of older adults in rural communities. Older adults without a history of falls and attaining higher education had better responses in coping appraisal, contributing to a reduction in perceived rewards and improving protection motivation. Conversely, older adults from lower education backgrounds tend to have higher non-preventive behaviours, leading to a decline in fall protection motivation.IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE: These results contribute important information to nurses working with...
