Real-world evidence and patient preference for subcutaneous < em > versus < /em > intravenous natalizumab in the treatment of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis - initial results from the observational SISTER study
CONCLUSION: Based on current data, there is a trend toward patients' preference for the natalizumab SC route over the IV route, which provides valuable insights into patients' preference for natalizumab RoA in routine care and complements available data from clinical studies with real-world data on SC natalizumab.TRIAL REGISTRATION: This observational (non-interventional) study was registered in the local German PEI register for non-interventional studies (NIS-No. 611) and in the international CTgov register (NCT05304520).PMID:38616781 | PMC:PMC11015759 | DOI:10.1177/17562864241241382 (Source: Adv Data)

Investigating a clinically informed sleep disturbance threshold for physical and mental health among Gulf War Illness veterans
CONCLUSIONS: Disturbed sleep was associated with measures of pain, fatigue, and cognitive health. Our results suggest that a previously determined clinical threshold for clinically disturbed sleep is useful when examining the health status of the study population. Given that GWI is associated with elevated PSQI scores and a high frequency of disturbed sleep, cutoffs determining sleep health should be sensitive to population exposures and health history to improve interpretability.PMID:38616799 | PMC:PMC11015895 | DOI:10.1093/sleepadvances/zpae018 (Source: Adv Data)

Impact of a resilience-building energy management intervention for people with systemic sclerosis: a mixed methods study
CONCLUSION: Incorporating peer health coaches and technology is beneficial for self-management interventions for people with SSc. Future tailoring of RENEW based on SSc duration and symptom severity is needed.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: clinicatrials.gov, NCT04908943.PMID:38618141 | PMC:PMC11015950 | DOI:10.1093/rap/rkae040 (Source: Adv Data)

Meta-analysis of perioperative outcomes and safety of percutaneous nephrostomy < em > versus < /em > retrograde ureteral stenting in the treatment of acute obstructive upper urinary tract infection
CONCLUSION: Given the significant impact of hematuria and catheterization failure on postoperative quality of life, the preference for PCN appears more advantageous than RUS.PMID:38618182 | PMC:PMC11010740 | DOI:10.1177/17562872241241854 (Source: Adv Data)

Real-World Effectiveness and Safety of Ramucirumab as a Second-Line Treatment for Patients with Unresectable Advanced or Metastatic Gastric/Gastroesophageal Junction Adenocarcinoma in Japan and South Korea: A Systematic Literature Review
CONCLUSION: RAM + PTX as a second-line treatment is effective and associated with an acceptable toxicity profile in patients with advanced or metastatic G/GEA in real-world settings of Japan and South Korea. More studies are recommended to further evaluate effectiveness and safety of RAM or RAM-based therapy, especially after anti-PD-1 therapy, in a wider Eastern Asian population.TRIAL REGISTRATION: INPLASY registration number INPLASY2022120023.PMID:38619719 | DOI:10.1007/s12325-024-02838-5 (Source: Adv Data)

Treatment-Free Interval: A Novel Approach to Assessing Real-World Treatment Effectiveness and Economic Impact Among Patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea
CONCLUSIONS: This real-world study suggests that TFI is a meaningful surrogate measure of treatment effectiveness in IBS-D. Patients treated with rifaximin had longer treatment-free periods and lower healthcare costs than patients treated with eluxadoline.PMID:38619720 | DOI:10.1007/s12325-024-02832-x (Source: Adv Data)

Reduction in Diabetes-Related Hospitalizations and Medical Costs After Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitor Initiation in People with Type 2 Diabetes Using Intensive Insulin Therapy
CONCLUSION: Initiation of Dexcom G6 among people with T2D using intensive insulin therapy was associated with a significant reduction in diabetes-related ED and inpatient visits and related HCRU costs. Expanded use of RT-CGM could augment these benefits and result in further cost reductions.PMID:38619722 | DOI:10.1007/s12325-024-02851-8 (Source: Adv Data)

Converting IMPROVE bleeding and VTE risk assessment models into a fast-and-frugal decision tree for VTE prophylaxis
Blood Adv. 2024 Apr 15:bloodadvances.2024013166. doi: 10.1182/bloodadvances.2024013166. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCurrent hospital VTE (venous thromboembolism) prophylaxis for medical patients has been characterized by both underuse and, increasingly, overuse. The American Society of Hematology (ASH) has endorsed the use of risk assessment models (RAM) as an approach to individualize VTE prophylaxis as a way of balancing overuse (excessive risk of bleeding) and underuse (risk of avoidable VTE). ASH has endorsed IMPROVE (International Medical Prevention Registry on Venous Thromboembolism) risk assessment models - the on...

Spectrometer-Less Remote Sensing Image Classification Based on Gate-Tunable van der Waals Heterostructures
Adv Sci (Weinh). 2024 Apr 12:e2309781. doi: 10.1002/advs.202309781. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRemote sensing technology, which conventionally employs spectrometers to capture hyperspectral images, allowing for the classification and unmixing based on the reflectance spectrum, has been extensively applied in diverse fields, including environmental monitoring, land resource management, and agriculture. However, miniaturization of remote sensing systems remains a challenge due to the complicated and dispersive optical components of spectrometers. Here, m-phase GaTe0.5Se0.5 with wide-spectral photoresponses (250-1064 nm) a...

Development and validation of machine learning models to predict frailty risk for elderly
CONCLUSION: Our study developed a preliminary prediction model based on two different ML approaches to help predict frailty risk in the elderly.IMPACT: The presented models from this study can be used to inform healthcare providers to predict the frailty probability among older adults and maybe help guide the development of effective frailty risk management interventions.IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE: Detecting frailty at an early stage and implementing timely targeted interventions may help to improve the allocation of health care resources and to reduce frailty-related burden. Identifying risk facto...
