Blood Adv. 2024 Apr 2:bloodadvances.2023011780. doi: 10.1182/bloodadvances.2023011780. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRurioctocog alfa pegol is an extended half-life full-length recombinant factor VIII (FVIII) bound to 20 kDa polyethylene glycol (PEG) that has been shown to be well tolerated and efficacious in the treatment and prevention of bleeding events in previously treated patients with severe hemophilia A. Here, we present a comprehensive analysis of immunogenicity data collected during 6 clinical studies of rurioctocog alfa pegol including a total of 360 unique previously treated patients with severe hemophilia A. T...

Immune status and selection of patients for immunotherapy in myeloma: a Proposal
Blood Adv. 2024 Apr 2:bloodadvances.2023011242. doi: 10.1182/bloodadvances.2023011242. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNewer immune-based approaches based on recruitment and redirection of endogenous and/or synthetic immunity such as chimeric antigen-receptor-T (CAR-T) cells or bispecific antibodies are transforming the clinical management of multiple myeloma (MM). Contributions of the immune system to the anti-tumor effects of myeloma therapies are also increasingly appreciated. Clinical malignancy in MM originates in the setting of systemic immune alterations that begin early in myelomagenesis and regional changes in immun...

Nurses' and midwives' experiences of managing parental postnatal depression: A scoping review
CONCLUSION: The review highlights significant gaps in the nurses' and midwives' care of PPND. Educational programmes are necessary to increase nurse and midwife knowledge of PPND and strategies for its management, including facilitating collaboration across the healthcare system and eliminating organizational and systemic-related barriers. Additional focused research is needed on nurses' and midwives' knowledge, perception of and experience with PPND beyond mothers, such as with fathers, sexually and gender-minoritized parents and surrogate mothers. Finally, additional research is needed in middle- and lower-income countri...

Home-based management on hospital re-admission rates in COPD patients: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: Given the burden of COPD on healthcare systems, and crucially on individuals, this review identified a reduction in hospital re-admission rate, a clinically important outcome.IMPACT: This study focused on the impact on hospital re-admission rates among the COPD patient cohort when home-based management was involved. A statistically significant reduction in rates of re-admission to the hospital was identified. This is positive for the patient, in terms of hospital avoidance, and reduces the burden on hospital systems. Further research is needed to determine the impact on cost-effectiveness and to quantify the mo...

The impact of digital technology use on nurses' professional identity and relations of power: a literature review
CONCLUSION: Our review presents insights into the relation between technology and nurses' professional identity and prevalent power relations. For future studies, dedicated and critical investigations of digital technologies' impact on the formation of professional identity in nursing are required.IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION: Nurses' professional identity may be altered by digital technologies used in clinical care. Nurses, who are aware of the potential effects of digitized work environments, can reflect on the relationship of technology and the nursing profession.IMPACT: The use of digital technology might lead to a ...

An innovative low-cost breast pump-hire program to enhance breastfeeding rates in a neonatal intensive care unit
CONCLUSION: The findings suggested that the low-cost breast pump hire program supported equitable care, increasing women's ability to provide expressed breastmilk for their infants.IMPACT: Providing access to low-cost hospital-grade breast pumps to mothers of vulnerable infants is likely to prevent poor infant clinical outcomes and improve women's care satisfaction.PUBLIC OR PATIENT CONTRIBUTION: Nil.PMID:38558479 | DOI:10.1111/jan.16180 (Source: Adv Data)

Mechanical Control of Quantum Transport in Graphene
This article reports measurements of quantum transport in strained graphene transistors which agree quantitatively with models based on mechanically-induced gauge potentials. A scalar potential is mechanically induced in-situ to modify graphene's work function by up to 25 meV. Mechanically generated vector potentials suppress the ballistic conductance of graphene by up to 30 % and control its quantum interferences. The data were measured with a custom experimental platform able to precisely tune both the mechanics and electrostatics of suspended graphene transistors at low-temperature over a broad range of strain (up to 2....

A new variant of the inherent strain method for the prediction of distortion in powder bed fusion additive manufacturing processes
Int J Adv Manuf Technol. 2024;131(9-10):4575-4594. doi: 10.1007/s00170-024-13255-x. Epub 2024 Feb 26.ABSTRACTA new variant of the inherent strain (IS) method is proposed to predict component distortion in powder bed fusion additive manufacturing (AM) that addresses some of the shortcomings of the previous work by accounting for both the compressive plastic strain formed adjacent to the melt pool and the thermal strain associated with the changing macroscale thermal field in the component during fabrication. A 3D thermomechanical finite element (FE) model using the new approach is presented and applied to predict the distor...

Time interval between surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with gastric cancer after gastrectomy: a population-based cohort study using a nationwide claim database
CONCLUSION: Adjuvant chemotherapy after gastrectomy in patients with gastric cancer should be initiated within 5 weeks of surgery. A delay of more than 5 weeks may have a detrimental effect on the subsequent disease course.PMID:38559613 | PMC:PMC10981231 | DOI:10.1177/17588359241241972 (Source: Adv Data)

Treatment switches of disease-modifying therapies in people with multiple sclerosis: long-term experience from the German MS Registry
CONCLUSION: The initial use of MME DMTs was among the strongest predictors of DMT discontinuation in a large German retrospective MS cohort, arguing for the need for prospective treatment strategy trials, not only but also on the initial broad use of HE DMTs in PwMS.PMID:38560408 | PMC:PMC10981260 | DOI:10.1177/17562864241239740 (Source: Adv Data)

ZygosityPredictor
Bioinform Adv. 2024 Feb 6;4(1):vbae017. doi: 10.1093/bioadv/vbae017. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTSUMMARY: ZygosityPredictor provides functionality to evaluate how many copies of a gene are affected by mutations in next generation sequencing data. In cancer samples, the tool processes both somatic and germline mutations. In particular, ZygosityPredictor computes the number of affected copies for single nucleotide variants and small insertions and deletions (Indels). In addition, the tool integrates information at gene level via phasing of several variants and subsequent logic to derive how strongly a gene is affected by mutati...
