Birth asphyxia and its association with grand multiparity and referral among hospital births: A prospective cross ‐sectional study in Benin, Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda
ConclusionsThere is some evidence of an increased risk of birth asphyxia for grand multiparous women having babies at hospitals, especially following intrapartum referral. Antenatal counseling should recognize grand multiparity as higher risk and advise appropriate childbirth facilities. Findings in Malawi suggest an advantage of health systems configuration requiring further exploration. (Source: Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica)

Routine use of cell salvage during cesarean section: A practice evaluation
ConclusionsRoutine intraoperative cell salvage may be used to reduce the need for blood transfusion during cesarean section. The risk of fetal cell alloimmunization in a future pregnancy following reinfusion of intraoperative cell salvage is one in 436. Given an apparent small risk of fetal cell alloimmunization, further work is required to establish the safety profile of intraoperative cell salvage in pregnancy. Maternal metabolic profiling across body mass index groups: An exploratory longitudinal study
ConclusionsOverweight or obese women had smaller pregnancy-related metabolic alterations than normal-weight/underweight women. There was a trend toward higher triglyceride and VLDL particle concentration in overweight/obese women. As this was a hypothesis-generating study, the similarities with late-onset pre-eclampsia warrant further investigation. The unfavorable development of fatty acid composition in overweight/obese women, with possible implication for the offspring, should also be studied further in the future. Vulvar cancer incidence and net survival in Sweden 1960 to 2019: A population ‐based national study
ConclusionsThe age-standardized incidence of vulvar cancer cases in Sweden was stable between 1960 and 2019. During the study period, an increase in adenocarcinoma and a decrease in malignant melanoma cases was found. Five-year net survival increased by 20 percent units during the study period. For squamous cell carcinoma, an increased age-specific 5-year net survival was observed for all age groups, apart for women aged ≥85. (Source: Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica)

Efficacy and safety of hydroxychloroquine for treatment of mild SARS ‐CoV‐2 infection and prevention of COVID‐19 severity in pregnant and postpartum women: A randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial
ConclusionsHCQ was found to be safe in pregnant and postpartum women with asymptomatic or mild SARS-CoV-2 infection. Although the prevalence of infection was decreased in the HCQ group, the statistical power was insufficient to confirm the potential beneficial effect of HCQ for COVID-19 treatment. Prevalence and determinants of perinatal mental disorders in women with gestational diabetes in New Zealand: Findings from a national longitudinal study
ConclusionsPerinatal mental disorders are common at time of diagnosis among women with gestational diabetes in New Zealand and had decreased by late pregnancy and at 6  months after birth. These disorders are more common among women with specific risk factors who may therefore benefit from additional support. (Source: Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica)

Methods of induction of labor in women with obesity: A secondary analysis of two multicenter randomized controlled trials
ConclusionsIn women with obesity we found a nonsignificant trend towards an increased rate of cesarean sections in the group induced with a Foley catheter compared to oral misoprostol; however, the study lacked power for this subgroup analysis. The finding of a higher risk of failed placement of a Foley catheter in women with obesity can be used in shared decision making. (Source: Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica)

Labor induction at 41+0 gestational weeks or expectant management for the nulliparous woman: The Finnish randomized controlled multicenter trial
ConclusionsOffering labor induction to nulliparous women at 41+0 gestational weeks may decrease the probability of operative delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, and neonatal weight ≥4000 g. However, this study was underpowered to affirm the trends of rising rates of CS and adverse neonatal outcomes in the expectant management group. Thus, expectant management could remain an option for some, as one in two women with expectant management had a spontaneous onset of labor. (Source: Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica)
