The use of a large diameter glenosphere in Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty for proximal humeral fractures in elderly patients undergoing tuberosity removal
CONCLUSIONS: A large diameter glenosphere does not ensure results comparable to those achieved after RSA with tuberosity reconstruction. However, the 44-mm glenosphere was effective in preventing RSA instability.PMID:38193572 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94iS2.14042 (Source: Acta Bio-Medica : Atenei Parmensis)

Total hip arthroplasty monobloc stem neck rupture in patient with massive heterotopic ossifications: a case report and literature review
CONCLUSIONS: Prosthetic femoral neck fractures are a rare complication. We suggest that this case represents a unique type of fatigue rupture, where neck length and the presence of massive heterotopic calcifications contributed to flexion forces, resulting in failure in the midpoint of the neck.PMID:38193574 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94iS2.13888 (Source: Acta Bio-Medica : Atenei Parmensis)

Can the medullary diameter/cortical thickness ratio be a predictor of diaphyseal fracture in elderly patients treated with cephalo-medullary nail for proximal femur fractures? A retrospective cohort study on 488 patients
CONCLUSIONS: The results of the present study demonstrate a trend towards a higher risk of diaphyseal fracture as the MD/CW ratio increases, although the association did not reach statistical significance due to the small number of events.PMID:38193583 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94iS2.13868 (Source: Acta Bio-Medica : Atenei Parmensis)

Avascular necrosis of humeral head after proximal humerus fracture: comparison between classification systems in predicting necrosis risk
CONCLUSIONS: There is a significant association between AVN and Neer 4 part, Russo type IVB and Lego pattern 12 fractures. AVN risk is also significantly higher in presence of 3 major Hertel's criteria.PMID:38193586 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94iS2.13871 (Source: Acta Bio-Medica : Atenei Parmensis)

The advantages of a single use retractor for soft tissue protection in direct anterior approach total hip arthroplasty: the preliminary experience
Acta Biomed. 2023 Jun 23;94(S2):e2023093. doi: 10.23750/abm.v94iS2.13821.ABSTRACTThe anterior hip approach is a procedure with increasing popularity in hip replacement surgery due to its many benefits and the number of surgeons using it is steadily increasing around the world. Less pain, better results in the first few weeks, reduced dislocation rate are the prerogatives of this approach. We analyzed in a group of 26 patients the use of a soft tissue retractor, Alexis Orthopedic Protector, the CPK values in the first third and fifth postoperative day. The results obtained, normalized, demonstrate a slight reduction in tiss...

Cemented and uncemented stems for displaced femoral neck fracture in the elderly. Retrospective study with a minimum 1-year follow-up
CONCLUSIONS: The low incidence of BCIS and the higher risk of postoperative PPFs in cemented and uncemented stems, respectively, suggest that the use of cementation is a safer procedure.PMID:38193479 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94iS2.13744 (Source: Acta Bio-Medica : Atenei Parmensis)

The current treatment of hip arthroplasty revision: a systematic review of the literature
CONCLUSIONS: In acetabular revision surgerythe use of TM cups and augment is a valid option in presence of major bone loss and pelvic discontinuities. In clinical practice the use of TM components replaced rings, while the cup-cage implant replaced conventional cages. TM augments and cups can be considered as the most promising technique in the reconstruction of wide acetabular defects, while the use of cages can be considered as a valid option in the elderly population.PMID:38193505 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94iS2.13826 (Source: Acta Bio-Medica : Atenei Parmensis)

Surgical strategies in pediatric supracondylar humeral fractures: our experience
CONCLUSIONS: There is no single and superior treatment for displaced humeral supracondylar fractures and that each fracture has its own personality.PMID:38193506 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94iS2.13814 (Source: Acta Bio-Medica : Atenei Parmensis)

Use of bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) in the treatment of delayed unions and nonunions: a single-center case series
CONCLUSIONS: Bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) has shown encouraging results and a high safety profile. Thus, it could be an effective and safe method in the treatment of delayed unions and nonunion. However, further studies will be needed to clarify its role.PMID:38193517 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94iS2.13870 (Source: Acta Bio-Medica : Atenei Parmensis)

Intraoperative complications during total hip arthroplasty: a very uncommon intraoperative femur fracture occurred in a malnourished osteoporotic patient
Acta Biomed. 2023 Jun 23;94(S2):e2023171. doi: 10.23750/abm.v94iS2.13811.ABSTRACTIntraoperative femoral fracture is a rare but growing complication of primary total hip arthroplasty. We aimed to present an uncommon related case, assessing also the role of malnutrition and osteoporosis. We discuss the case of a 49 years old male patient, malnourished and osteoporotic, with an intertrochanteric, multifragmentary, inveterate fracture, that happened three months before. During the prosthetic surgery, a supracondylar fracture occurred. We synthesized it with a 13 holes LISS plate, 7 distal screws and 3 proximal cerclage wires. ...
