Fluid accumulation during acute kidney injury in the intensive care unit
ConclusionJoint model analyses of fluid accumulation in patients admitted to the intensive care unit with acute kidney injury confirm that even a modest degree of fluid overload (5%) may be negatively associated with both survival and renal recovery. (Source: Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica)

Randomized controlled trial of intra ‐articular ketorolac on pain and inflammation after minor arthroscopic knee surgery
ConclusionKetorolac prescribed at a low dose intra‐articularly does not produce any detectable analgesic effect after minor knee surgery. (Source: Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica)

Should impaired mobility on presentation be a vital sign?
ConclusionImmobility on presentation is a vital sign and predicts mortality for acutely ill patients independently of the traditional vital signs, age, and co‐morbidities. (Source: Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica)

A novel technique for endobronchial blocker placement for one ‐lung ventilation in children under 2 years
ConclusionsIntraluminal calculated distance for endobronchial blocker placement is a feasible method to achieve lung isolation and could reduce hypoxemia episodes during blocker placement in children under the age of 2 years. (Source: Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica)

The use of acute normovolemic hemodilution in paediatric cardiac surgery
ConclusionWe found a reduction in the administration of blood products and lower postoperative blood losses associated with the use of ANH in paediatric cardiac surgery patients. The data suggest that ANH might be beneficial in reducing perioperative morbidity in this patient population. (Source: Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica)

Helicopter vs. ground transportation of patients bound for primary percutaneous coronary intervention
ConclusionIn an observational study of patients with suspected STEMI in eastern Denmark, no significant beneficial effect of helicopter transport could be detected on mortality, premature labour market exit or work ability. Only a study with random allocation to one system vs. another, along with a large sample size, will allow determination of superiority of helicopter transport.
