Prevalence and genomic analysis of t203-like G9 (G9-VI) rotaviruses circulating in children with gastroenteritis in Beijing, China
AbstractOur previous surveillance revealed that t203-like G9 (tentatively  designated subtype G9-VI) rotaviruses re-emerged in 2010 in Beijing and rapidly prevailed over the G9-III subtype (the most common G9 subtype globally) and previously predominant G genotypes over the following two years. G9-VI belongs to the VP7 evolutionary lineage VI, which includes unusual and sporadic human rotaviruses from China (t203) and Japan. To obtain insight into the epidemiology, evolution, and transmission advantages of G9-VI rotavirus, we performed follow-up surveillance (2014-2017) and whole-genome analysis of 12 representative G9 st...

Differences in Coronavirus disease - 19 vaccination related side effects in patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn ’s disease in Japan
ConclusionThe use of corticosteroids could increase the risk of muscle pain following COVID-19 vaccination. Additionally, factors such as female sex, younger age and current or former smoking can affect the incidence of fever or chills. This information should encourage patients with IBD to get vaccinated against COVID-19. (Source: Indian Journal of Gastroenterology)

Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors reduce the incidence of first cardiovascular events in Japanese diabetic patients
ConclusionsOur findings have demonstrated that the use of DPP-4 inhibitors may be associated with a reduced incidence of first cardiovascular events in Japanese diabetic patients. The results require confirmation in randomized controlled trials. (Source: Heart and Vessels)

Long-Term Efficacy of Dupilumab for Eosinophilic Chronic Rhinosinusitis
CONCLUSION: The NPS remained improved, and the CT score showed further improvement with long-term treatment, whereas olfactory function and olfactory cleft opacification showed significant improvement only after long-term treatment. There was a dissociation between the time to improve in the NPS and CT scores and the time to improve in olfactory function and olfactory cleft opacification. Based on these results, dupilumab should be administered for longer than 1 year, especially for olfactory function.PMID:37750177 | DOI:10.1177/19458924231204128 (Source: American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy)

Risk of metachronous colorectal cancer after colectomy for first colon cancer in Lynch syndrome: multicenter retrospective study in Japan
CONCLUSIONS: To reduce the incidence of mCRC, patients with genetically diagnosed LS and fCC, preferentially located in the left-sided colon, may need to undergo more extended colectomy than that usually performed in Japan. However, such extended colectomy should be counterbalanced with favorable overall survival and actual risk of mCRC development.PMID:37752370 | DOI:10.1007/s10147-023-02412-z (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Aetiological agents of adult community-acquired pneumonia in Japan: systematic review and meta-analysis of published data
CONCLUSION: The epidemiology of CAP varies depending on the situation, such as in the hospital versus outpatient setting. Viruses are more frequently detected by exhaustive genetic searches, resulting in a significant variation in epidemiology.PMID:37751988 | DOI:10.1136/bmjresp-2023-001800 (Source: Respiratory Care)

Factors associated with the status of usual source of care during the COVID-19 pandemic: a nationwide survey in Japan
CONCLUSIONS: We identified factors associated with the status of USC during the COVID-19 pandemic, including health literacy and social isolation. These findings provide primary care providers and policymakers with insight into the potential barriers to having a USC in the aftermath of the pandemic.PMID:37752415 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-023-02148-9 (Source: Primary Care)

Bibliometric analysis of the Vogt ‒Koyanagi‒Harada disease literature
ConclusionUtilizing dynamic and visualization tools, bibliometrics provides a clear depiction of the research history, development trends, and research hotspots in VKHD It serves as a valuable tool for identifying research gaps and areas that necessitate further exploration. Our study revealed potential directions for future VKHD research, including investigating specific molecular mechanisms underlying the disease, exploring the clinical utility of optical coherence tomography angiography and other diagnostic techniques, and conducting clinical research on novel therapeutic drugs. Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 2002: Measures for the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Human T-Cell Leukemia Virus Type 1 Transmission in Japan: The Burdens of HTLV-1-Infected Mothers
shi The main mode of mother-to-child transmission of the human T-cell leukemia virus (HTLV)-1 is through breastfeeding. Although the most reliable nutritional regimen to prevent HTLV-1 transmission is exclusive formula feeding, a recent meta-analysis revealed that short-term breastfeeding within 90 days does not increase the risk of infection. The protocol of the Japanese Health, Labor, and Welfare Science Research Group primarily recommended exclusive formula feeding for mothers who are positive for HTLV-1. However, there has been no quantitative research on the difficulties experienced by HTLV-1-positive mothers in c...
