Protocol for a web-based study on the work environment and daily lifestyle of Japanese employees
Ind Health. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.2486/indhealth.2023-0068. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMental health problems are prevalent among the working population and must be resolved. We conducted a web-based large-scale study of workers, including a baseline survey and two follow-up surveys, to investigate the associations between self-care behaviors in daily life (e.g., stress coping, sleep, diet, and exercise), work environment improvements, and mental health among Japanese employees from various industries. In this protocol, we demonstrate the study design and demographic data of the participants in the baseline survey. Invit...

Assessing the association between probable posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms and quality of life among emergency service workers using path analysis
CONCLUSION: Active coping in response to stressful situations is important for maintaining good mental health among emergency service workers. Active coping and social support may strengthen resilience, and resilience may improve QOL. Screening for mental health and QOL should include simultaneous assessment of stress-coping, social support, and resilience. Although the findings of this cross-sectional study are important, it could not confirm a causal relationship between PTSD and QOL.PMID:37718827 | DOI:10.3233/WOR-220551 (Source: Work)

Prevalence of Primary Headache in Nurses in Japan: A Cross-sectional Single-center Study
Conclusion Migraines have a high prevalence (>20%) among nurses and are often under-diagnosed. In many cases, headache-associated symptoms are more important than laterality or other characteristics for the diagnosis. Many nurses are treated for headaches without a correct diagnosis. Further education regarding primary headaches may be necessary for health practitioners as well as society.PMID:37722898 | DOI:10.2169/internalmedicine.1757-23 (Source: Internal Medicine)

First Report of Klebsiella subsp. Ozaenae Meningitis in Japan
Intern Med. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.1894-23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough the frequency of community-acquired infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae subsp. ozaenae (K. ozaenae) is low, they are often detected in sputum specimens. In addition, lung abscesses, necrotizing pneumonia, and urinary tract infections caused by K. ozaenae have also been reported. We herein report the first detection of K. ozaenae as an etiological agent of bacterial meningitis in Japan. Cases of K. ozaenae meningitis complicated by diabetes mellitus and sinusitis have been reported elsewhere. When Klebsiella pneumon...

Utilization of an Automated Latex Agglutination Turbidity Assay for Assessing Gastric Mucosal Alteration during < em > Helicobacter pylori < /em > Infection
CONCLUSIONS: : The LA assay can determine the risk of atrophic gastritis, which in turn is a considerable risk factor for gastric cancer. We propose using this assay in combination with the PG I/II ratio to avoid missing gastric cancer patients who have a low LA value (less than 32.0 U/mL).PMID:37720994 | DOI:10.5009/gnl220464 (Source: Gut and Liver)

Angiogenesis inhibitor-specific hypertension increases the risk of developing aortic dissection
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Sep 16;167:115504. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115504. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAortic dissection is an adverse event of angiogenesis inhibitors; however, the association between the drugs and aortic dissection is unclear. Therefore, we investigated if and how angiogenesis inhibitors increase the onset of aortic dissection using pharmacologically-induced aortic dissection-prone model (LAB) mice, cultured endothelial cells, and real-world databases, which is a novel integrated research approach. Disproportionality analysis was performed and calculated using the reporting odds ratio as a risk si...
