Determination of bupropion by off-line coupling Fe < sub > 3 < /sub > O < sub > 4 < /sub > @CuO & amp;GO nanocomposite and ion mobility spectrometry with application to biological samples
In this study, an off-line coupling of dispersive solid-phase extraction (DSPE) and ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) was introduced to extract and determine bupropion (BUP). A magnetic nanocomposite adsorbent (Fe3O4@CuO&GO) was fabricated by combining graphene oxide (GO) sheets with Fe3O4 and CuO through coprecipitation method. The synthesized adsorbent was characterized and analyzed using the analytical techniques. The effect of extraction parameters including desorption solvent (type and volume), pH, adsorbent amount, contact time, temperature, and the volume of analyte solution on the extraction efficiency was invest...

Determination of protamine and heparin based on their effects on a glucose oxidase enzymatic reaction
Anal Sci. 2023 May 27. doi: 10.1007/s44211-023-00373-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis paper describes a sensitive method for determining protamine and heparin by utilizing a glucose oxidase enzymatic reaction. Polycationic protamine significantly promoted the enzymatic reaction rate with [Fe(CN)6]3-, so that the increase could be used to determine protamine. The promotion effect was stoichiometrically decreased by the addition of polyanionic heparin through the polyion complex formation with protamine, so that the enzymatic reaction also allowed for the determination of heparin. We thus applied the proposed method to ...

Various non-destructive SFS techniques for simultaneous recognition and monitoring of 1-amino pyrene and 1-napthyl amine in the mixture
Anal Sci. 2023 May 28. doi: 10.1007/s44211-023-00368-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe sensitive, non-destructive constant wavelength (CW) and constant energy (CE) SFS techniques have been used for the simultaneous determination of 1-amino pyrene (AP) and 1-napthyl amine (NA) in their mixtures without prior separation via optimization of different experimental conditions (ΔλCW 70.0 nm, ΔνCE 4000.0 cm-1, scan rate 240.0 nm/min, 25.0 °C, methanol). Amplitude-concentration plots have been linear for 1-amino pyrene, AP (0.01-0.1 mg/L) and 1-napthyl amine, NA (0.1-1.0 mg/L). In aqueous methanolic binary mixtures, the me...

Affecting Factors of Prostate Volume in Forensic Autopsied Decedents
The objectives of this study were to first confirm the current prostate volume by age and then determine diseases that can influence prostate volume using forensic autopsy materials. Prostate specimens were collected from forensic autopsies performed at Shiga University of Medical Science, Japan, between January 2015 and December 2019. Overall, 207 decedents were included in the study. Prostate volume was measured by the Archimedes' principle. Concomitant diseases were determined by the past medical histories and autopsy results. The mean crude prostate volume was 29.1 ± 10.3 mL (range, 2.8-88.0 mL). The crude prostate vo...

Population pharmacokinetics of duloxetine in Japanese pediatric patients with major depressive disorder
The objectives of this analysis were to characterize the pharmacokinetics of duloxetine in Japanese pediatric patients aged 9-17 years with major depressive disorder (MDD) and to explore potential intrinsic factors affecting its pharmacokinetics. A population pharmacokinetic (PK) model was developed with plasma steady-state duloxetine concentrations from Japanese pediatric patients with MDD in an open-label long-term extension trial in Japan (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03395353). Duloxetine pharmacokinetics in Japanese pediatric patients was well described by a one-compartment model with first-order absorption. The ...

Association between Genetic Variation in the < em > TAS2R38 < /em > Bitter Taste Receptor and Propylthiouracil Bitter Taste Thresholds among Adults Living in Japan Using the Modified 2AFC Procedure with the Quest Method
Nutrients. 2023 May 22;15(10):2415. doi: 10.3390/nu15102415.ABSTRACTIndividual taste sensitivity influences food preferences, nutritional control, and health, and differs greatly between individuals. The purpose of this study was to establish a method of measuring and quantifying an individual's taste sensitivity and to evaluate the relationship between taste variation and genetic polymorphisms in humans using agonist specificities of the bitter taste receptor gene, TAS2R38, with the bitter compound 6-n-propylthiouracil (PROP). We precisely detected the threshold of PROP bitter perception by conducting the modified two-alt...

Age-Dependent Causes of Death among Patients with Breast Cancer Based on Osaka Cancer Registry and Vital Statistics in Japan
Healthcare (Basel). 2023 May 12;11(10):1409. doi: 10.3390/healthcare11101409.ABSTRACTWe aimed to clarify the differences in causes of death among patients with breast cancer according to age at diagnosis and years elapsed since diagnosis. Using data from the Osaka Cancer Registry and Vital Statistics databases, 40,690 female patients diagnosed with primary breast cancer between 1985 and 2006 were included in this study. The statistics on all deaths between 1985 to 2016 were collected, and the observation period was 10 years (2006-2016). Mortality hazards according to age at diagnosis and years elapsed since diagnosis were ...

Toward standardization of tau PET imaging corresponding to various tau PET tracers: a multicenter phantom study
ConclusionsThe phantom activity was comprehensive for first- and second-generation tau PET tracers. The mid-range activity that we determined could be applied to later tau PET tracers. We propose an analytical tau-specific VOI template based on tau pathophysiological changes in patients with AD to standardize tau PET imaging. Phantom images reconstructed under the optimized conditions for tau PET imaging achieved excellent image quality and quantitative accuracy. (Source: Annals of Nuclear Medicine)
