Allergic reaction to latex-free gloves
I’ve been using latex-free gloves for a couple years. About 1 1/2 months ago, I started to get some itchy spots on my hands. I thought it was the new gloves we had just gotten. A coupe of the spots got pretty nasty, looking like a fungal infection, so I treated it over the couple weeks I took off for Christmas and got them to resolve, and ordered new gloves. The ones I was reacting to were polychloroprene and the new ones (and the ones I had before) were polyisoprene. However, now I’m... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

10 years?
I didn't realize how long I've had this account. I guess I created it when I was an EMT. Now I've been a flight paramedic for a year. I remember many years ago wanting to become a doctor, but I didn't think it was a realistic goal for me. I didn't think becoming a paramedic was a realistic goal either and now I'm a flight medic... I still have that itch to be a doctor. Maybe half a year ago, I decided I was going to go back to school to try to get into nursing cause I feel like it is better... Undecided - FM vs EM
Hey all, Currently dual applied FM and EM, and still undecisive on which one I'm going to pick. I'm an MDSSP/STRAP Army Reserves student, so I'm committed to working one weekend a month/two weeks a year for the military once I'm done with residency. From what I've heard about EM, the weekends and night shifts really add up (2 weekends a month??) and I really enjoyed continuity clinic, so I'm leaning towards FM right now. My last itch that I can't let go of that I really did love the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Career change advice/ chances with high MCAT & low gpa
Hi everyone, I’m hoping to get some insight for my MD/DO chances as I’m currently making the decision of whether switching careers is feasible for me. I’m currently an engineer making low six figures but still have the medicine itch and am currently in the process of deciding whether or not to attend the formal post bac I’ve been accepted to. Basically I’m wondering, do I stand a chance at medicine or am I throwing away a decent career for a what-if? I would be quitting my job to start the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

"Functional illnesses." What is your approach?
By "functional" illness, I'm referring to and lumping together a bunch of diagnoses: POTS, fibromyalgia, mast cell activation, chronic fatigue, multiple drug intolerances, EDS III, chronic itch, chronic pain, etc. (maybe IBS and interstitial cystitis and others I didn't list). Some of these might exist as a true organic disease in some patients but most of the time it's code talk for underlying psych issues. We have these patients in all of our varying specialties. I dread these encounters... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Can I become a doctor if I have eczema?
I am actually wanting to go into one of the surgical specialties if possible. My eczema is not too severe, however my skin becomes very itchy at times and I am afraid that it will stop me from pursuing my career path. I am still a teenager and hope that my skin condition will subside. So has anyone else been through a similar experience or am I too ambitious? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is GMO and GTFO worth it?
Hey all, I was hoping to gather the insight of people that have been through this or are going through this. I have always had an itch to serve and perhaps romanticized the idea. Now that I have an acceptance to medical school I have begun doing my research into what military medicine truly entails and I have become disheartened by much of what I am finding. It seems I have come to the conclusion that the GMO and out route is the most plausible as taking a risk on a military... Is GMO and GTFO worth it? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is my Med School goal realistic?
So a quick synopsis of me: I'm 29 yrs old, have 2 kids under 4 yrs old, married, currently in the last 2 semesters of an ADN in Nursing at a local community college. Really feeling the itch to work towards getting into medical school, especially after experiencing quite a bit of nursing clinical and feeling like I really want more than this(some will say it's early to make that decision I know..) Current overall GPA is 3.2, none of the required med school pre-reqs done yet(planning on... Is my Med School goal realistic? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
