Cost-effectiveness of behavioural counselling intervention compared with non-intervention for adult patients with metabolic syndrome to prevent cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes in Japan: a microsimulation modelling study
Conclusions This study suggests that even small effects of counselling and education on behavioural modification may lead to the prevention of acute life-threatening events and chronic diseases, in addition to the reduction of medication resulting from metabolic syndrome, which results in cost savings. Although many health systems routinely screen patients for social concerns, few health systems achieve the recommended model of integration. In this critical case study in an urban safety net health system, we describe the human capital, operational redesign, and financial investment needed to implement the National Academy recommendations. Designing and implementing a bundle of care for patients with early-stage breast cancer: lessons from a pilot program
We present a case study on the design and implementation of a value-based bundled package of care for patients with early-stage breast cancer treated in the private health sector in Australia. Value-based healthcare is an essential change to how we deliver healthcare, shifting the focus from paying for individual services provided to a focus on the health outcomes gained over a full cycle of care. The Australian health system has unintentionally created barriers to value-based cancer care through fragmented care pathways and complex funding arrangements where patients can unexpectedly encounter high out-of-pocket costs. A ...

Cost of Treatment for Brain Metastases Using Data From a National Health Insurance
CONCLUSIONS: Whole-brain radiation therapy was the least costly radiation technique. Similar per-treatment prices for Gamma Knife and linear accelerator SRS support their use in treating BMs. Stereotactic radiation therapy in general was costlier on a per-use basis than SRS, prompting further scrutiny on its frequent use. Hippocampal avoidance intensity modulated radiation therapy was the costliest radiation therapy on a per-use basis by a moderate amount, prompting further discussion about its comparative cost effectiveness against other radiation modalities. This study underscores the importance of multiple consideration...
