Significant delays in ASD diagnosis and treatment
'Heartbreaking' delays in autism diagnosis and treatment got even worse during pandemic Despite increased public awareness, research advances, and wider insurance coverage for autism therapies, children often wait months — in some cases more than a year — to get an autism diagnosis and begin intervention services. www.cnn.com Yep- I'm currently booking assessments in Feb. 2023. I struggle to see why there is such a lack of psychologists who do this. As a sustainable business, purely doing ASD evals only became viable less than a decad...

What do you guys think? is ortho really THAT BAD in terms of EBM? will we see less surgeries in the future?
Summary of the video: The first study looked at the top 30 most commonly performed procedures in ortho found 3 low risk of bias RCTS ONLY The second was for MSK pain procedures - no LRB RCTs So most of orthopedic procedures taken as standard nowadays have a very weak evidence base, does that mean that we will see far less ortho procedures in the future with far more stringent indications? especially if insurance companies catch up and stop reimbursing procedures that... Consents and Billing
Happy belated St. Patrick's Day! So, the clipboard nurses at my job approached me and told me that I need to start consenting for EVERY billable office procedure. Including 11721/11055, in office wound debridement's (regardless of size or depth of debridements), application of wound vacs, short leg casts, custom orthotics etc. Not for E&M, just office procedures. They are making the argument that it cannot be billed to insurance if there is no consent. Does anyone else who work in Florida... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How much should I expect to get paid at this moonlighting job?
Pgy2 in a big Midwestern city. I'm going to be moonlighting at a therapy clinic. There's about 20 therapists there but I'll be their first and only prescriber. I predict almost all of the cases will be prescribing or switching antidepressants, maybe a few mood stabilizers. I imagine most billing codes will be 90792, for which I believe insurance pays $140-$160. I don't think I'll get paid hourly, I think I'll be splitting % with the owner for each encounter. Can anyone recommend what I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I have compiled a list of cons with being a dentist … let me know if any of these are inaccurate or not common enough
Lets start with the general state of the profession: The field is getting saturated and will require you to move to a more rural setting to find a job that pays more than $120K. Insurance reimbursements are cut year-after-year, making you have to work harder to collect compensation over time. The high amount of dental students graduating every year increases competition — this drives down compensation, and allows insurances to continue getting away with compensating less... Prospective PT students
Are you sure you wish to sign up for a field with terrible wages and continuously decreasing reimbursement? Disrespected by other medical professionals and insurance companies? Honestly will be ahead financially in life if you start working for McDonald’s right out of college. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Cluneal PNS
Anyone doing much cluneal PNS? Not getting any exposure to it during fellowship but recently met with our Nalu rep who talked about it. My questions are: - what’re the indications? - who’s the ideal patient? - how’s insurance coverage in non-Medicare patients? - have you seen positive results with it? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Moonlighting Malpractice
Looking through residency programs I have found some that allow moonlighting, but require you purchase an additional malpractice policy. I know very little about malpractice insurance, but it looks like it can be expensive. How do residents who moonlight afford the extra cost of an additional policy? Is there some discounted rate for residents? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Will this misdemeanor destroy me?
A few nights ago I was moving from one town to another in Georgia. I got pulled over for speeding while driving my partner’s car, which had just recently lapsed in insurance. We hadn’t started new insurance because we were literally saving to pay the ad valorem tax on the vehicle after moving (which is really expensive) and the only reason I was driving it was to get it from our old apartment to our new one. I obviously should not have been speeding, and I wish I had realized that I was. I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OMFS malpractice insurance
Hello, quick question about getting malpractice insurance. I know most OMFS choose OMSNIC but when I compare the prices and the detail with MedPro, I'm really inclined to going with medpro especially since OMSNIC doesn't have occurrence policy, and price points are similar. Can anyone tell me pros/cons of either company and which one you would personally go with? I also heard something about when you pay for OMSNIC, you buy their shares and their dividends end up paying for the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Meaning and money
Have been wrestling quite a bit with these thoughts in my mind and wanted to get perspectives from folks with experience on this. I tend to over complicate my thoughts about the future and how I plan to practice (currently in residency). My impression thus far is that insurance based private practice is a game where you find some symptoms correlating to some axis I (aka billable) diagnosis, you push meds which may or may not be effective and to some degree you help the patient. I often... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

The future of dentistry
Just saw this post from a while back on didn't see any responses to it. As someone new to the field this was a bit intimidating so I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. "I'm a dentist that graduated 18 years ago. Sounds like you're a smart kid and I'm sure what ever path you choose you will be very successful. Dental school right now it's a rip off. Paying $500K for a dental education is financial suicide. Dental insurance companies are killing the dental industry. Dental insurance been... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
