Quality of maternal and newborn health services and their impact on maternal-neonatal outcome at a primary health center
CONCLUSION: PHCs are the first point of contact of mothers and healthcare delivery system. Assessment of quality of services is an important tool for quality assurance. Inclusion of evidence-based practices like skin-to-skin contact and early initiation of breastfeeding is important to improve the maternal and newborn well-being.PMID:38605802 | PMC:PMC11006057 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_843_23 (Source: Primary Care)

Catastrophic impact of 1947 partition of India on people's health
CONCLUSION: The review demonstrates the apathy by the contemporary international scientific research community on the social as well as economic damage caused by the partition of India. We suggest that the international scientific and research community should play the role of vigilante and fact finder to unearth the facets of mass human tragedy and its long-term consequences so that global consciousness is awakened, and help and aid flows when it is most needed.PMID:38605803 | PMC:PMC11006024 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_985_23 (Source: Primary Care)

Burden of dog bite injuries and wound management practices to prevent rabies among dog owners
CONCLUSION: The incidence of dog bites among the dog owners was high. The rabies pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis practices adopted by the participants were found to be inadequate.PMID:38605805 | PMC:PMC11006032 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_768_23 (Source: Primary Care)

Road accidents on Indian National highways, ambulance reachability and transportation of injured to trauma facility: Survey-based introspection of golden hour
CONCLUSIONS: The results provide evidence that in either of the accident cases on the highways that are adjacent to/passing through the city limits or on the core highways, the total time for emergency care accessibility is nearly 60 minutes or greater; this implies that in the majority of cases, there is very meagre time left to provide emergency medical care to the needy and injured on the Indian highways to abide by the concept of golden hour. Plausible reforms backed by technology for enabling highways into 'emergency rescuable highways' are highly needed to guarantee a safer and more sustainable transportation system ...

Correlation between acne and insulin resistance; experience from central India
CONCLUSION: Our study suggests the prevalence of insulin resistance in 42.67% of patients with acne, thereby providing the possibility of use of insulin modifiers as an adjunct acne treatment and stratifying the possible risk of metabolic syndrome in patients with acne. Also recommended is the control of dietary factors and lifestyle modification for the management of acne with insulin resistance.PMID:38605790 | PMC:PMC11006054 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1232_23 (Source: Primary Care)

Levels of work stress among information technology professionals during COVID-19 pandemic in an Indian metropolis
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of work stress among IT professionals was 17.7% during the COVID19 pandemic, with higher rates among employees aged 31 years and above, among female employees, and among employees with 4-7 years of work experience. More than 80% of the professionals experienced deadline pressures, long working hours, regular multi-tasking, and difficulty in maintaining work-life balance. Based on the results, it is recommended to integrate work-stress assessment in periodical medical examination of IT employees from a health promotion and productivity improvement perspective.PMID:38605784 | PMC:PMC11006029 | DOI:...

Genetic Association of Toll-Like Receptor 4 (TLR4) Gene Polymorphism (rs4986790) With Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC): A Pilot Case-Control Study
Conclusion The present study did not report any significant association of the TLR4 polymorphic marker rs4986790 with OSCC. Further investigations into the association of other polymorphic markers in the TLR4 gene, among the larger population of OSCC patients, could provide evidence of their association with OSCC.PMID:38606218 | PMC:PMC11007480 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.56021 (Source: Cancer Control)

First report on molecular characterization of Oestrus ovis in sheep from India
The objective of the present study is to characterize the dipteran larvae species infesting the sheep being maintained at SRRC, Mannavanur, by means of COI gene based PCR. During the last week of May 2021, post mortem examination of the skull of an Avikalin male sheep (20  months old) revealed the presence of larvae in its nasal sinuses. The larvae were washed in PBS (pH 7.2) and preserved in 70% alcohol. Total genomic DNA was isolated from the larvae using an initial step of grinding with liquid Nitrogen in a sterile mortar and pestle. Using the isolated genomic DN A from the larvae as a template, Cytochrome c oxidase su...

Association of Interleukins 17A and 17F Gene Polymorphism with Asthma: A Case Control Study in North Indian Population
This study involved 150 cases with asthmatics and 150 healthy controls. Asthmatic pat ients were confirmed by Spirometry and other clinical parameters. The genotype frequencies observed for all genes in controls were in Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium (HWE). The results suggested that the asthmatics of the same height and age had lower weight and higher smoking rate in comparison to contr ols. The asthmatics displayed cough, breathlessness, congestion, disturbed sleep, headache, and wheezing. These parameters were found to be significantly elevated in asthmatics. Excepting Hb, levels of blood eosinophils, AEC, TLC and serum IgE...

Prognostic Utility of a Novel Prognostic Model Consisting of Age, CRP, Ki67, and POD24 in Patients with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma
AbstractTo find the independent factors affecting the prognosis of AITL patients, establish a novel predictive model, and stratify the prognosis of AITL patients. We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 86 patients diagnosed with AITL in the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from December 2010 to March 2022. The clinical features, recurrence time, and death time of patients were collected and analyzed statistically. The median age of our patients was 68  years old, and the male-to-female ratio was 2.2: 1. There are differences between males and females in ECOG PS score (p = 0.037), β2 m...

Prognostic Significance of T-Cells and Macrophages in the Tumour Microenvironment of Nodal DLBCL
AbstractRevised International Prognostic (R-IPI) score is used widely for risk stratification of DLBCL cases, yet some patients belonging to same risk category tend to exhibit different outcomes. The role of T-cells and macrophages in prognostication of lymphomas has been a point of interest of late. We aimed to study the association of FOXP3 positive T-regulatory cells, cytotoxic T-cells and macrophages with the immunophenotypic subtypes, clinicopathological characteristics, treatment response and survival in nodal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients. The clinicopathological and treatment data of 83 DLBCL patie...
