Evaluation of prescriptions from tertiary care hospitals across India for deviations from treatment guidelines & amp; their potential consequences
CONCLUSIONS: The overall prevalence of deviations found was 45 per cent of which unacceptable deviations was estimated to be 9.8 per cent. To minimize the deviations, clinicians recommended online training on rational prescribing and administrative directives as potential interventions.PMID:38528817 | DOI:10.4103/ijmr.ijmr_2309_22 (Source: The Indian Journal of Medical Research)

Visual hazardous models: A hybrid approach to investigate road hazardous events
Accid Anal Prev. 2024 Mar 25;200:107556. doi: 10.1016/j.aap.2024.107556. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRoad users (drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and Animals) are exposed to hazardous events during their commute. With 23 % of global fatalities among pedestrians, their safety continues to be a principal interest for policymakers worldwide. Owing to limited budgets available, there is a growing emphasis on data-driven stochastic models to decide on policies. However, statistical models have limitations due to crash data having redundant features, inherent heterogeneity, and unobserved characteristics. The random parameter...

Treatment Outcome in Patients with Disseminated Cysticercosis: A Systematic Review of Case Reports and Case Series
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2024 Mar 26:tpmd230694. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0694. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDisseminated cysticercosis is defined by multiple brain lesions and involvement of other body sites. Cysticidal treatment in disseminated cysticercosis is considered life-threatening. We conducted a systematic review of all published cases and case series to assess the safety and efficacy of cysticidal treatment. We conducted a systematic review in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines (PROSPERO CRD42022331895) to assess the safety and efficacy of cysticidal t...

Experiences, Perceptions and Attitudes Toward Bullying Among School-Going Adolescents: A Cross-Sectional Study from South India
AbstractBullying victimisation affects an estimated 30% of individuals worldwide. While the prevalence and risk factors of bullying have been studied in India, comprehensive research on the phenomenon of bullying itself remains scarce. Our objective was to study the experiences, perceptions, and attitudes towards bullying among seventh to ninth-grade students. The study included all seventh to ninth graders (N = 205) from two schools in the Udupi district of South India. To collect information on bullying, we used theBully Survey - Student Version with appropriate modifications for our context. The mean age of the part...

PD-L1 Expression in Colorectal Carcinoma Correlates with the Immune Microenvironment
ConclusionsThe present study showed a relatively lower frequency of PD-L1 in CRC from the Eastern Indian cohort. The immune cell concentration in the present study was calculated using image analysis-based objectivised methods. Significant correlation of PD-L1 expression in tumor cells with the tumor-infiltrating immune cells indicated its crucial role in the pathobiology of CRC especially by regulating the TIME. Considering the therapeutic implication of PD-L1 in various malignancies, it may be one of the crucial therapeutic targets in a proportion of cases. (Source: Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer)

Cartilaginous Transdifferentiation in Melanoma: A Diagnostic Challenge
AbstractMalignant melanoma  is a formidable tumor originating from melanocytes of neural crest origin, found in various anatomical locations, primarily in the skin, followed by the eyes and mucosal membranes. This tumor stands out due to its remarkable phenotypic diversity. Transdifferentiation, the process of differentiatio n into cell lineages other than the one from which the tumor originated, and phenotypic plasticity, characterized by changes in behavior, morphology, and physiology in response to different environmental conditions, can make melanoma a diagnostic conundrum for unwary pathologists. In this case repor t...

Flow-Through Radial Artery Forearm Flap for Tongue Revascularization After Excision of Base of Tongue Malignancies
We report here two cases of base of tongue excision for which free flow-through radial forearm flap was used to reconstruct the tongue defect as well as salvage the remaining part of ischemic tongue. This technique can be effectively considered in selected cases of vascular compromise due to lingual vessel sacrifice to preserve the cancer-free anterior native tongue tissue with improved functional outcomes. Extra-corporeal non-liver transplant therapies for acute liver failure: Focus on plasma exchange and continuous renal replacement therapy
AbstractThe acute inflammatory milieu in patients with acute liver failure (ALF) results in ‘toxic’ blood in these patients. In vitro experiments have shown that the plasma obtained from ALF patients is toxic to rabbit hepatocytes and inhibits regeneration of rat hepatocytes. Treatments such as plasma exchange and continuous renal replacement therapy to cleanse the blood have improved survival in ALF patients. In the liver microcirculation, the exchange of fluid across fenestrae in liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) is vital for proper functioning of hepatocytes. Clogging of the liver filter bed by inflammatory...
