ConclusionAn ST2 LZD- and methicillin-resistant clone was established in the whole hospital, not only in the ICU but also in wards where LZD consumption is low. This highlights the need to implement and maintain infection control measures as well as antimicrobial stewardship programs in all hospital units, to preserve the efficacy of LZD.

ConclusionThe overall prevalence of CPOs at Barts Health Trust was 3.1%, comprising NDM and OXA-48-type carbapenemases, which is in line with other London-based studies. Renal patients and the elderly had the highest burden of CPOs, whereas previous hospitalization and foreign travel were associated with an increased risk of CPO carriage.

This study demonstrated a maximum 2.91 log reduction of Salmonella cocktail in wheat flour treated with 395 nm pulsed LED for 60 min in a semi-closed system. Oxidation occurred in wheat flour after 30 and 60 min exposure to the 395 nm LED, which subsequently led to bleaching, and polymerization of gluten components through disulphide linkage. The water holding capacity of gluten was reduced by oxidation, and the contents of secondary structures were altered significantly after pulsed LED treatment, but the rheological properties were not deteriorated. The disulfide bond formation naturally happens during dough formation an...

In conclusion, we demonstrated a simple generation-dependent model that was able to adequately capture an observed transmission pattern of the measles outbreak in Japan, 2018. The proposed model also helped predict the future incidence and evaluate public health control measures. Polishing the forecasting model further, we can achieve an eventual routine forecast and evaluation the outbreaks while maintaining the model structure as simple as possible. Competing Interests The authors declare no competing interests. Data Availability The code snippets used for simulations and generation of figures as well as the epidemiolo...

In conclusion, measles is an important health problem, especially in the adult age group, because of the complications and labour loss. For outbreak management; the awareness of health personnel should be increased following the identification of index case, proper isolation measures should be taken for the hospitalized patients, and routine reporting should be carried out timely and accurately. Conclusion We leave you with words from Robin: “My family and I hope that Holly’s story will make a difference and help you realize that you must be aware of the risks of vaccinations, just as you make yourself aware of the risks of any medical procedure. We hope to make change, and one very important improvement must be that the pediatricians acknowledge that there are vaccine reactions, that moderate to serious and even fatal vaccine reactions do exist and occur at least 100 times more than is reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).  We are still very disappointed and disgusted wi...

This study represents an advance with respect to the field of participatory public health surveillance systems. To-date, reports in the literature of online participatory studies have been limited to self-reported syndromic information only. Some studies have combined self-reported influenza symptoms with serology to understand attack rates in the population. However, linkage to symptoms has been limited in self-sampling studies, and although other studies have demonstrated that individuals can obtain a nasal swab specimen from themselves, we report here that individuals prefer saliva and initial results indicate that it c...

With the potential to affect thousands, the recent outbreak of measles in the U.S. has placed a spotlight on a debate that’s raged for years. Recently, 26 cases of measles, a highly contagious and deadly respiratory viral disease that causes fever, runny nose, cough, red eyes, sore throat and rashes, have been documented across four states, including California, Utah, Colorado and Washington. Each of those cases has been connected to recent trips to Disneyland in Anaheim, California. At least 15, or more than half, of the 26 children infected with the virus were unvaccinated, prompting some to question why not, espec...
