Once these VCC materials reach soil... The content of this RSS Feed (c) The Royal Society of Chemistry
This study demonstrates that in fish the host species imparts substantial impact in shaping the community structure of the intestinal microbiota. PMID: 30416165 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
ConclusionsFoot orthoses can relieve pain and disability and enhance patients, but no significant differences were found between control and intervention groups.
AbstractPurposeSleep problems are very common in people with diabetes. The aim of this study was to assess the association of the combination of self-reported sleep duration and sleep quality on quality of life (QOL) in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).MethodsWe analyzed the community-based cross-sectional data of 798 patients with T2DM in Xiamen, China, in 2016. Sleep duration was measured as self-reported average sleep time during the previous month. Sleep quality was evaluated as self-rated reports. QOL was assessed by the Diabetes-specific Quality of Life (DSQL), with scores
AbstractObjectivesSpinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a rare, hereditary, autosomal recessive neuromuscular disorder that, in its most severe forms, impacts infants and children. Once symptomatic, it is characterized clinically by a distinct inability to achieve motor milestones, such as the ability to lift the head, sit, stand, or walk. Quality of life (QOL) measurement in very young infants presents a particular challenge. Therefore, this review aims to highlight commonly used measurement tools and identifies future research opportunities for QOL measurement in SMA.MethodsA systematic literature review was carried out focus...
ConclusionA DTF-specific HRQL tool and consensus regarding the preferred measurement tool among DTF patients is lacking. Our study indicates that HRQL of DTF patients was negatively affected in several domains. A DTF-specific HRQL measure could improve our understanding of short- and long-term effects and, ideally, can be used in both clinic and for research purposes.
AbstractBackgroundObesity is associated with physical inactivity and impaired health-related quality of life (HRQoL). We aim to test the hypothesis that Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) followed by supervised physical training improves physical activity (PA) levels and HRQoL.MethodsSixty patients, qualified for RYGB, were at 6 months post-surgery randomized to 26 weeks of a supervised physical training intervention (INT) or to a control (CON) group. PA was assessed by accelerometry and using the questionnaire RPAQ. HRQoL was measured by the SF-36 questionnaire. All assessments were performed pre-surgery and 6, 12...
ConclusionsOverall, married women living in rural China had relatively low scores for quality of life. Improving family income, providing access to affordable and high-quality medical care, facilitating couple communication, and promoting active coping styles could be intervention strategies to improve the quality of life of these rural residents.
A new study conducted by Trinity University researchers Richard Butler and Mary Stefl and released by the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce shows that the economic impact from health care and bioscience activity in the Alamo City in 2017 was $40.2 billion. A more conservative estimate still places the impact north of $30 billion. Among the highlights from the new study are that nearly $10 billion in wages were paid to more than 182,000 employees working in health care and bioscience last year. In…
Authors: Liu D, Chen X, Peng D Abstract In this paper, a cosine similarity measure between hybrid intuitionistic fuzzy sets is proposed. The aim of the paper is to investigate the cosine similarity measure with hybrid intuitionistic fuzzy information and apply it to medical diagnosis. Firstly, we construct the cosine similarity measure between hybrid intuitionistic fuzzy sets, and the relevant properties are also discussed. In order to obtain a reasonable evaluation in group decision, the weight of experts under different attributes is determined by the projection of individual decision information on the ideal dec...
