This study evaluates three warfarin dosing algorithms (Kimmel, Dawson, High Dose  ≥ 2.5 mg) for hospitalized older adults. A random selection of 250 patients with overshoots (INR ≥ 5 after 48 h of hospitalization) and 250 patients without overshoots were accessed from a database of 12,107 inpatients ≥ 65 years treated with chronic warfarin during hospitaliza tion between January 1, 2014 and June 30, 2016. Algorithms were retrospectively applied to patients 2 days prior to overshoots in the overshoot group, and 2 days prior to the maximum INR reache...

In this study, we carried out qualitative and quantitative analysis of the donkey whey proteome using a label-free proteomic approach, combined with parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) as a validation method. A total of 300 whey proteins were identified in donkey colostrum (DC) and donkey mature (DM) milk, of which 18 were differentially expressed (P

SchnollAbstractPain and addiction are complex disorders with many commonalities. Beneficial outcomes for both disorders can be achieved through similar principles such as individualized medication selection and dosing, comprehensive multi-modal therapies, and judicious modification of treatment as indicated by the patient's status. This is implicit in the term “medication assisted treatment” (MAT) for opioid use disorders (OUD), and is equally...

Gérard, Jean-Marie Bourhis, Danielle Blondel, Marc Jamin, Elisar BarbarAbstractThe rabies and Ebola viruses recruit the highly conserved host protein LC8 for their own reproductive success. In vivo knockouts of the LC8 recognition motif within the rabies virus phosphoprotein (RavP) result in completely non-lethal viral infections. In this work, we examine the molecular role LC8 plays in viral lethality. We show that RavP and LC8 co-localize in rabies infected cells, and tha...

Over the past two decades, the federal and state governments, industry, and professionals have taken significant actions to address opioid abuse, addiction, and overdose, including efforts to determine the appropriateness of prescribing opioid analgesics to patients with acute and chronic pain (Greene, et  al., 2018; Jones, et al., 2018). Without a doubt, many of these efforts have been necessary. Some measures, however, have focused sharply on reducing the supply of prescription opioids, which has contributed toward confusion and fear among prescribers and restricted access to controlled prescript ion medication...
