Low-cost generic direct-acting antiviral treatment for hep C is equivalent to branded formulations
New data demonstrates that generic direct-acting antivirals are as effective and safe as branded treatments to cure hepatitis C.
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest a common pathogenetic mechanism in EMC, HCV-MC and primary Sjögren's syndrome, consisting of autoantigen-driven clonal expansion and exhaustion of selected RF-producing B-cells. The more massive clonal expansion in HCV-MC may be due to co-stimulatory signals provided by the virus. PMID: 31969220 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
Transfusion related hepatitis C(HCV) is rare in the west, in the developing world, it remains a challenge. Children with hematological malignancies are especially vulnerable due to large number of blood components received. They often develop active hepatitis due to immunocompromised status and concurrent hepatic insults from chemotherapy and iron overload. Stem cell transplant(SCT) further increases hepatic risk due to veno-occlusive disease(VOD) and hepatic graft versus host disease(GVHD).Direct acting antivirals(DAA) have revolutionized treatment of HCV.
Seki Okazaki Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) sometimes occurs in mildly fibrotic livers, while HCC incidence in NASH-related cirrhosis is lower than and less predictable than in hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related cirrhosis. Transforming growth factor (TGF)-β signaling in hepatocytic nuclei is implicated in fibrosis and carcinogenesis. TGF-βtype I receptor (TβRI) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) differentially phosphorylate the mediator Smad3, resulting in 2 distinct phospho-isoforms: C-terminally phosphorylated Smad3 (pSmad3C) and linker-phosphoryl...

ConclusionThe favorable linkage to care and cure outcomes in our study suggests that homeless persons may be more likely to engage in HCV screening and treatment when these services are located in the community for their use. Our study further lends support to the efficacy of care coordination programs to encourage movement through the HCV care continuum in vulnerable populations.
We report the Hepatitis C prevalence and evaluate the impact of the integrated clinic on the Hepatitis C cascade of care.
The opioid epidemic in the U.S. is driving a simultaneous epidemic of infectious diseases— including HIV, hepatitis C virus (HCV) and bacterial infections, and sexually transmitted infections— but workforce shortages, stigma, and administrative burdens are preventing the integration of opioid use disorder (OUD) and infectious disease services, says a new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. It recommends a number of state and federal policy actions to address those barriers, including removing insurance requirements on prescribing medications for OUD (i.e., buprenorphine), ...
The authors describe the principles behind and approach to HCV resistance testing and consider evidence from in vitro studies, clinical trials and real world cohorts on the impact of HCV resistance on treatment outcomes for particular DAA regimens. Five scenarios are identified in the UK and similar settings, where, in the Group's opinion, resistance testing should be performed.
In conclusion, the molecular mechanism of anti-HCC of B. batryticatus can be related to the tumor microenvironment to some extent. B. batryticatus may exert its anti-cancer effects and improve prognosis of patients by regulating macrophages M1 in VIR and NVIR through acting on different targets.
Authors: Ifeorah IM, Bakarey AS, Akubo AO, Onyemelukwe FN Abstract Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is associated with liver complicated diseases resulting in end-stage hepatocellular carcinoma. Although vertical transmission from mother to child serves as one of the routes of HCV acquisition in children, yet HCV infection in pregnant women and children is still underappreciated in sub-Saharan Africa. Therefore, this study investigated the burden of HCV, associated risk factors, and viremia among antenatal and postnatal clinic attendees in the rural and urban communities of Kogi State, Nigeria. Atotal of 176 blood samples w...
