Non-neoplastic diseases of the fallopian tube: MR imaging with emphasis on diffusion-weighted imaging

Conclusion MRI is the method of choice to study adnexal pelvic masses. Qualitative and quantitative functional imaging with DWI can be of help in characterization of tubaric diseases, provided that findings are interpreted in conjunction with those obtained with conventional MRI sequences. Teaching Points • Nondilated fallopian tubes are not usually seen on MR images. • MRI is the method of choice to characterize and localize utero-adnexal masses. • MRI allows characterization of lesions through evaluation of the fluid content’s signal intensity. • DWI in conjunction with conventional MRI sequences may improve tissue characterization. • Pelvic inflammatory disease is the most common tubal pathology.

The women’s health technology or so-called femtech market has been on the rise for the last couple of years, but it has mainly revolved around fertility and pregnancy. We believe that female health topics reach far beyond such traditional issues and players should concentrate more on menopause, endometriosis, or mental health, just to name a few areas. Thus, we tried to collect companies which are on top of their game in the conventional fertility and/or pregnancy area, but also start-ups and ventures who are looking way beyond that. Here’s our guide to 10 outstanding companies in women’s health. The w...

In this study, vaginal microbiome was divided in five biotypes, being four of them dominated by lactobacilli and considered as healthy (pH 5.0) and higher diversity. In a healthy status, microbiota is balanced and forms a stable ecological unit dominated by Lactobacillus species, which fixes pH below 5.0 and controls non-desirable groups. In a pathogenic process, the microbiome shifts to a dysbiotic state, in which lactobacilli drop, pH is increased to values above 4.5 and other groups such as Gardnerella, Atopobium, Prevotella, and Streptococcus, among others, can overgrow (Srinivasan et al., 2012). Short chain fatty acid...

Conclusion Four types of USL endometriosis were summarized according to the ultrasound characteristics and the distribution of USL involvement was also concluded according to the results of surgery. TVS has significant value in diagnosis of USL endometriosis and can be used as a first-line tool for diagnosis. Ethics Statement The Medical Science Ethics Committee of Shenzhen People’s Hospital approved this study (No. 2018100). Each patient or an appropriate family member provided informed written consent to obtain clinical materials. Author Contributions YZ and BD conceived and designed the whole experiments and ...

This study evaluated the association between BRCA mutation status and serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) level in young, reproductive-aged patients with breast cancer. Materials and Methods: Patients ≤ 40 years of age with breast cancer and who had known BRCA status and baseline serum AMH level at Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, Korea, were considered for inclusion. A total of 52 BRCA mutation carriers (27 BRCA1 and 25 BRCA2) and 264 non-carriers were selected for analyses. The serum level of AMH was compared according to presence of a BRCA mutation, and linear and logistic regression analyses were performed to eva...

Anti-Müllerian hormone levels in recurrent embryonic miscarriage patients are frequently abnormal, and may affect pregnancy outcomes. J Obstet Gynaecol. 2019 Mar 27;:1-5 Authors: McCormack CD, Leemaqz SY, Furness DL, Dekker GA, Roberts CT Abstract This prospective cohort study measured anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels in recurrent miscarriage (RM) patients, compared them to a normal population, and assessed the pregnancy outcomes. The RM patients demonstrated AMH levels that were significantly lower than the normal population, both in women aged ≤35 years, and those aged>35 ...

Introduction: Endometriosis is an enigmatic disease affecting up to 10% of reproductive-aged women causing pain and infertility. Deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) is the most severe form of the disease. The impact of surgical treatment for deep endometriosis on fertility success rate of assisted reproduction techniques (ART) is not clear.
