Efficacy of Prophylactic Intra‐Aortic Balloon Pump Therapy in Chronic Heart Failure Patients Undergoing Cardiac Surgery

This study investigated the efficacy of prophylactic intraoperative intra‐aortic balloon pump (IABP) usage in chronic heart failure patients with severely reduced left ventricular function undergoing elective cardiac surgery. Between January 2008 and December 2012, 107 patients with severely reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF

ConclusionsIn patients with ACS, ticagrelor is more efficacious in protecting against new ischemic events and mortality than clopidogrel irrespective of the presence of HF. There is no difference between ticagrelor or clopidogrel treatment in new-onset HF post-ACS.

ConclusionsIn this observational analysis of STEMI patients undergoing PPCI, ticagrelor was associated with improved outcomes compared to clopidogrel and prasugrel. An appropriately powered randomized trial is needed to confirm these findings.

Conclusion: Our findings describe the most reported risk factors for preventability of oral anticoagulant-induced bleedings. These factors may be useful for targeting interventions to improve pharmacovigilance activities in our regional territory and to reduce the burden of medication errors and inappropriate prescription. Introduction Oral anticoagulant therapy is widely used for the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with atrial fibrillation, or for the prevention and treatment of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism (Raj et al., 1994; Monaco et al., 2017). Oral anticoagulants can be di...

Authors: Polastri M, Zagnoni G, Loforte A Abstract Patients with advanced heart failure refractory to medical therapy can be treated with left ventricular assist devices, implanted to augment or replace left ventricular function. The most common postoperative complications are infection; bleeding; thromboembolic events; device malfunction; depression, and neurological dysfunction (stroke, transient ischemic attacks, encephalopathy). Their onset contributes to the interruption and delay in commencing a physiotherapy program. During the initial postoperative phase, patients with left ventricular assist devices are no...

AbstractPurposeThe aim of this study was to investigate the factors associated with low health-related quality of life (HRQoL) compared between younger and older Thai patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF).MethodsThis is a cross-sectional analysis of baseline data from a prospective NVAF registry from 24 hospitals located across Thailand. Patient demographic, clinical, lifestyle, and medication data were collected at baseline. EuroQOL/EQ-5D-3L was used to assess HRQoL. Health utility was calculated for the entire study population, and low HRQoL was defined as the lowest quartile. Multivariate logistic regres...

ConclusionsOur early outcomes suggest that the CSS approach may reduce the incidence of right ventricular failure, bleeding, intubation time, and intensive care unit length of stay. Further studies are needed to fully elucidate the advantages of CSS LVAD implantation compared with median sternotomy.
