Mozambique: Nyusi to Launch Campaign Against Rotavirus

[AIM] Maputo -The Mozambican Health Ministry hopes to reach over 335,000 children by December in a national vaccination campaign against rotavirus, the deputy national director of public health, Quinhas Fernandes, announced at a Maputo press conference on Tuesday.

Future control of pneumonia and diarrhea mortality in India requires understanding of their etiologies. We combined time series analysis of seasonality, climate-region, and clinical syndromes from 243,000 verbal autopsies in the nationally-representative Million Death Study. Pneumonia mortality at 1 month-14 years was greatest in January (Rate ratio (RR) 1.66, 99%CI 1.51-1.82; versus the April minimum). CONCLUSIONS: Rotavirus vaccination was timely among sentinel sites in these four early rotavirus vaccine-introducing countries in Africa. Late presentation for vaccination may have resulted in some children with access to care missing first dose of rotavirus vaccine; however, vaccination delays were infrequent and therefore the potential impact of the age restrictions on overall proportion vaccinated was minimal.
