Chinese medicinal herbs for mumps.

CONCLUSIONS: We did not find any RCTs for or against Chinese herbal medicine used in the treatment of mumps. We hope more high-quality RCTs will be conducted in the future. PMID: 25887348 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

CONCLUSION: The incidence of post-vaccination aseptic meningitis has declined significantly since 2001, and the incidence has remained stable at fewer than 3 cases per 100,000 doses since 2010. Multiple factors might have contributed to the decline in aseptic meningitis incidence, including (i) lowered misclassification of aseptic meningitis resulting from echovirus infection; (ii) changes in the vaccine manufacturing process in 2000; and (iii) publication in 2008 of the recommendation for vaccination of children at 1 year of age.PMID:35058077 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.01.008

Lancet Reg Health West Pac. 2022 Jan 3;20:100361. doi: 10.1016/j.lanwpc.2021.100361. eCollection 2022 Mar.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Acute meningitis or encephalitis (AME) results from a neurological infection causing high case fatality and severe sequelae. AME lacked comprehensive surveillance in China.METHODS: Nation-wide surveillance of all-age patients with AME syndromes was conducted in 144 sentinel hospitals of 29 provinces in China. Eleven AME-causative viral and bacterial pathogens were tested with multiple diagnostic methods.FINDINGS: Between 2009 and 2018, 20,454 AME patients were recruited for tests. Based on 9,079 pat...

Vaccine. 2021 Dec 24:S0264-410X(21)01630-3. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.12.022. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe COVID-19 pandemic disrupted routine vaccinations for children and adolescents. However, it remains unclear whether the impact has been different for children and adolescents from low-income families. To address this, we compared monthly routine vaccination use per 1000 vaccine-eligible children and adolescents enrolled in Louisiana Medicaid in the years before (2017-2019) and during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020). Compared to the 2017-2019 average vaccination rates, we found a 28% reduction in measles, mumps, and...

CONCLUSION: Public health policy-makers must be cognizant that large-scale public health efforts must be optimized for accessibility across all socio-economic levels to ensure public and population health gains are realized equitably.PMID:35025101 | DOI:10.17269/s41997-021-00578-5

We reported three cases of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) that developed within 6 weeks after ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccination. Antiplatelet factor 4 antibodies were undetectable in all three cases. Therefore, vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia was very unlikely. Other potential causes of thrombocytopenia were excluded. Their clinical presentations, severity of thrombocytopenia and outcomes were varied. Only one ITP case, an 80-year-old man, received ITP treatments and achieved complete response after 2 weeks of eltrombopag. An 84-year-old man had spontaneous complete remission, and a 55-year-old woman had partia...

Evidence suggests that mumps vaccine-induced humoral immunity wanes over time. Relatively few studies have examined cell-mediated immunity or reported on sex-based differences. To better understand sex-based differences in the immune response to mumps vaccine, we measured neutralizing antibody titers and mumps-specific cytokine/chemokine responses in a cohort of 748 adolescents and young adults after two doses of MMR vaccine. We observed significa...

In this study we investigate whether the accelerated schedule of MMR2 leads to a change in coverage of MMR2 and other childhood vaccines with an ecological study using childhood immunisation data from 2009 to 2018 in London.METHODS: We modelled coverage used generalized estimating equations (GEE) adjusted for year and DTaP/IPV/Hib3 coverage measured at 2nd birthday as a proxy for baseline local vaccination programme performance to determine the percentage point difference in coverage of MMR2 and other childhood vaccines.RESULTS: Average MMR2 coverage was higher among early implementing boroughs from 2012/13 onwards. Emerging viral infections continuously pose a threat to human wellbeing. Several RNA viruses have managed to establish access to the male reproductive tract and persist in human semen. The sexual transmission of the virus is of critical public concern. The epidemiological inferences are essential to understand its complexity, particularly the probability of viral transmission from asymptomatic patients or those in the incubation period or from the patient who was previously infected and now fully recovered. From the clinical perspective, negative impacts in the male reproductive tract associated with RNA virus infection ha...
