Auditory mismatch negativity in pre-manifest and manifest Huntington's disease
CONCLUSION: These results suggest an initial and subtle deterioration of pre-attentive mechanisms in the presymptomatic phase of HD, with an increasing phase shift in the MMN time frame. This result could indicate initial functional changes with a possible compensatory effect.SIGNIFICANCE: An initial and slight decrease in MMN associated with increased phase coherence in the corresponding EEG frequencies could indicate an early functional involvement of pre-attentive resources that could precede the clinical expression of HD.PMID:38603947 | DOI:10.1016/j.clinph.2024.03.020 (Source: Clinical Neurophysiology)

Alleviating Neurodegenerative Diseases Associated with Mitochondrial Defects by Therapeutic Biomolecules
Curr Top Med Chem. 2024 Apr 5. doi: 10.2174/0115680266299148240329062647. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNeurodegenerative diseases are emerging as a global health concern in the current sce-nario, and their association with mitochondrial defects has been a potential area of research. Mi-tochondria, one of the essential organelles of the cell, serve as the cell's powerhouse, producing energy and ensuring cellular health. Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease have been found to be primarily triggered by mitochondrial malfunct...

Am Ann Deaf. 2023;168(2):187-201. doi: 10.1353/aad.2023.a912141.ABSTRACTLittle is known about the history of women's curatorial work in museums, particularly the work of deaf women. The contributions of Archer M. Huntington, founder of the Hispanic Society Museum and Library (HSM&L) in New York City and the women to whom he entrusted library and museum work deserve to be better known. Some of these women were deaf, and two of them, Eleanor Sherman Font and Margaret Sherman, were great-granddaughters of Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, founder of the first public school for the deaf in the United States. These women not on...

Influence of Anosognosia on Patient-Reported Outcomes for Psychiatric Symptoms and Quality of Life in Huntington ’s Disease
Anosognosia, defined as reduced awareness of one ’s deficit or symptom, is common in Huntington’s disease (HD) and detectable at each disease stage. The impact of anosognosia on self-reporting in HD populations is critical to understand given growing use of patient-reported outcomes in HD clinical care and research. We aimed to determine the i nfluence of anosognosia on patient-reported outcome measures assessing psychiatric symptoms and quality of life in HD. (Source: Parkinsonism and Related Disorders)
