Dual system of water safety plan auditing in Hungary: benefits and lessons learnt
J Water Health. 2023 Nov;21(11):1663-1675. doi: 10.2166/wh.2023.130.ABSTRACTA risk-based approach is recognised worldwide as the most reliable means for the provision of safe drinking water. Efficient implementation of the water safety plan (WSP) approach, recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), is facilitated by an auditing framework. In Hungary, development of WSPs is a legal obligation for water suppliers. WSPs are subject to a two-stage regulatory audit, a consultative central technical audit and a formal local audit. In 2019, a survey was conducted in cooperation with WHO to evaluate audit experiences of o...

Focal congenital hyperinsulinism
We report 2 cases of focal congenital hyperinsulinism - both male infants: 22 and 2 months of age - treated successfully with enucleation of the pancreas lesion (Semmelweis University, Budapest). Both patients had the pathognomonic mutation of the ABCC8 gene of the ATP-sensitive potassium channel. Radiologic imaging and histology confirmed the diagnosis, and after the operation, pharmacological treatment was terminated in both cases. During the follow-up period (5 and 1.5 years, respectively) they are euglycemic, with no morbidities attributed to the operation. We believe that these two operations for focal hyperinsulinism...

Investigating the impacts of heavy metal(loid)s on ecology and human health in the lower basin of Hungary ’s Danube River: A Python and Monte Carlo simulation-based study
This study aimed to determine the environmental and health risks of the heavy metal levels in the Danube River in Hungary. The metals, including Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Ni, Cr, Pb, and As, were measured in the period from 2013 to 2019. The Spearman correlation and heatmap cluster analysis were utilized to determine the origin of pollution and the factors that control surface water quality. Several indices, such as the heavy metal pollution index (HPI), metal index (MI), hazard quotient oral and dermal (HQ), hazard index oral and dermal (HI), and carcinogenic risk (CR), were conducted to evaluate the potential risks for the environ...

The impact of retrieval method and breed on the motility and kinematic parameters of fresh and post-thaw ram epididymal spermatozoa
In conclusion, both collection methods were found suitable for REPS retrieval. The REPS from Racka exhibited better linear movement values than those from the Merino breed. The cryotolerance of REPS of both breeds was comparable.PMID:37999739 | DOI:10.1556/004.2023.00945 (Source: Acta Veterinaria Hungarica)
