Evaluation of use and identification of predictive factors for nonuse of peripheral venous catheters in the emergency department
AbstractThe placement of peripheral venous catheters (PVC) is a frequent procedure in the emergency department (ED), which exposes patients to complications (hematoma, fluid leakage, phlebitis, edema, infection), increases hemolysis of blood samples, is time-consuming and costly. The main aim of this study is to analyze the rate of PVC nonuse in the ED and to identify predictive factors of their nonuse. This prospective single-center observational study was conducted in the ED of the Saint-Antoine Hospital in Paris, France between February and March 2022. Adult patients receiving a PVC were included. In addition to demogra...

Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2574: A Sensor-Based Upper Limb Treatment in Hemiplegic Patients: Results from a Randomized Pilot Study
This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of using the Gloreha Aria (R-Lead), a sensor-based upper limb in-hospital rehabilitation, compared with conventional physiotherapist-led training in subacute hemiplegic patients. Twenty-one patients were recruited and randomised 1:1 to a sensor-based group (treatment group TG) or a conventional group (control group, CG). All patients performed 30 sessions of 30 min each of dedicated upper limb rehabilitation. The Fugl–Meyer Assessment for Upper Extremity (FMA-UE) was the primary evaluation., both as a motor score and as individual items. Secondary evaluations were F...

Trends In Percutaneous Device Use For The Treatment Of Venous Thromboembolism Over Time In The PINC AI Healthcare Database And The National Inpatient Sample
The number of different methodologies of reperfusion therapy to treat venous thromboembolism (VTE) has increased substantially. Nevertheless, investigation of data representativeness and device-level usage in administrative databases has been limited. Using the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) and the PINC AI Healthcare Database (PHD), all hospital encounters with a diagnosis code of VTE were identified between 1/1/2016 and 12/31/2020. Patient demographics and trends in treatment modalities were evaluated over time. (Source: The American Journal of Cardiology)

Clinical Impact of the Endo-aortic Clamp for Redo Mitral Valve Surgery
AbstractAim of this study was to compare redo MV surgery patients undergoing right mini-thoracotomy and EAC with redo MV patients undergoing surgery through other approaches. Redo MV patients from 7 European centers were analyzed. Primary endpoint was 30-day mortality; secondary endpoints were stroke, re-exploration, low cardiac output syndrome (LCOS), respiratory failure, and intensive care unit (ICU) and in-hospital length-of-stay. Forty-nine patients underwent right mini-thoracotomy and EAC (22.7%), and 167 (77.3%) underwent surgery through other approaches (112 sternotomy, 40 unclamped mini-thoracotomies, and 15 mini-t...

Aspirin versus metformin in pregnancies at high risk of preterm pre-eclampsia in China (AVERT): protocol for a multicentre, double-blind, 3-arm randomised controlled trial
This study will compare the incidence of preterm-PE with delivery at <37 weeks’ gestation, as the primary outcome, of three different interventional groups: (1) aspirin 75 mg daily, (2) aspirin 150 mg daily and (3) aspirin 75 mg with metformin 1.5 g daily. 957 participants per treatment group are required to detect a significant difference of 59% in the reduction of the incidence of preterm-PE with 80% power and type I error of 5%. Pregnancy and neonatal outcomes will be collected and analysed. Ethics and dissemination Ethical approval for the study was obtained from the Joint Chinese University of Hong Kong&ndas...

Randomised controlled, patient-blinded, multicentre, superiority trial to evaluate the efficacy of the line-attached sheath-type traction device for endoscopic submucosal dissection in patients with superficial gastric neoplasms
Introduction EndoTrac is a line-attached sheath-type traction device that enables us to control the direction and the force of traction during endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). The efficacy of EndoTrac for gastric ESD has not been fully verified. Methods and analysis The G-Trac study is a multicentre (nine general hospitals and two university hospitals in Japan) collaborative trial assessing the efficacy of EndoTrac for gastric ESDs. Patients with superficial gastric neoplasms will be enrolled and randomly assigned to undergo either conventional ESD or EndoTrac ESD. Allocation will be stratified according to tumour ...
