Does Health & Her app use improve menopausal symptoms? A longitudinal cohort study
Conclusions This study demonstrated that greater weekly engagement with the app was associated with greater reductions in symptoms. It is recommended that women be made aware of menopause-specific apps, such as that provided by Health & Her, to support them to manage their symptoms. (Source: BMJ Open)

Development and testing of patient-centered education about hormone replacement therapy for women at high genetic risk of breast and ovarian cancer
CONCLUSION: Following education, BRCA mutation carriers had significantly less decisional conflict regarding the choice to use HRT. This pilot study was successful in generating a prototype educational aid for further testing.PMID:38150837 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2023.11.022 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

Metabolomic study of the estrogenic and anti-osteoporotic potential of Erythrina bidwillii leaf
Biomed Chromatogr. 2023 Dec 25:e5810. doi: 10.1002/bmc.5810. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTErythrina bidwillii Lindl., Leguminosae, constitutes a valuable crop for horticulture and medicine; however, it is rarely investigated. Menopause is a crucial transitional period in women's health. Women worldwide consider the use of phytoestrogens as a safe hormone replacement therapy to alleviate detrimental menopausal symptoms. Thus, the discovery of novel phytoestrogens is highly demanded. The present study aimed to investigate, for the first time, the metabolomic profile and the estrogenic potential of E. bidwillii Lindl. leaf. ...

Follicle development and its prediction in patients with primary ovarian insufficiency: Possible treatments and markers to maximize the ability to conceive with residual follicles
CONCLUSION: This review highlights the challenges and available interventions for achieving pregnancy using a patient's oocytes in cases of POI. We believe that a combination of currently available treatments and prediction methods is the best strategy to enable patients with POI to conceive using their own eggs. Although AMH levels may predict follicle growth, further research is necessary to improve the chances of successful follicular development and conception in patients with POI.PMID:38144239 | PMC:PMC10746865 | DOI:10.1002/rmb2.12556 (Source: Reproductive Biology)

In Vitro and In Vivo Imaging-Based Evaluation of Doxorubicin Anticancer Treatment in Combination with the Herbal Medicine Black Cohosh
In this study, we evaluated the viability and survival of BC- and DOX-treated MCF-7 cells. A preclinical model of MCF-7 xenografts was used to determine the influence of BC and DOX administration on tumor growth and metabolism. The number of apoptotic cells after incubation with both DOX and BC was significantly increased (~100%) compared to the control. Treatment with DOX altered the potential of MCF-7 cells to form colonies; however, coincubation with BC did not affect this process. In vivo, PET-CT imaging showed that combined treatment of DOX and BC induced a significant reduction in both metabolic activity (29%) and an...

Hormone replacement therapy
The importance of menopause and the short and long term effects of this have been underestimated and under discussed. With the media currently highlighting issues that affect women, it is important to understand menopause, the effects of this and how to mitigate these effects. When prescribing any drug or treatment, the risks must be properly discussed and women given as much information as possible to make an informed choice about their health. This is likely to look different for every woman who comes for a consultation as menopause and subsequent reactions to HRT are individual. (Source: Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine)
